hi

a couple of weeks ago i lost my tow hook cover on my r129 (96) and i am trying to get this replaced.

rather then ordering one from the MB dealership i thought i try ebay and i found the following:

i looked up the part number on www.detali.ru website and with my vin number i get part number 1298800005

i found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150205171338&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

but it has part number 129 880 02 05 I emailed the seller and he thinks it is for '95 or later models

it is also not the correct colour but i can get that sorted out.

not the end of the world if i end up paying £8 and it does not fit but if it does that would be quite a bit cheaper than getting it from the MB dealer.

do you think this would fit or is it not right for a 96 r129?

cheers

A1298800205 is for the '99 facelift onwards unless your car is fitted with code 806.

this is an ongoing story
i ordered the 1298800005 from MB in Milton Keynes, i had it taken to Wayside in Bletchely to have it spray painted in the correct colour, i picked it up on Friday afternoon and drove home and tried to fit it, and the cover is completely wrong, i rang MB MK who asked me to pop down.

they had a quick look and agreed with me it is not the correct part, the had another look and they thought it would be part
A1298800205 (i nearly bought it on ebay about a month ago for a fiver  )

i am pretty annoyed as i had just forked out £45 to have the part spray painted on top of the £45 for the part itself) but the newly ordered part does come in the correct colour and is more expensive but MB MK will swap it out for me, which is nice of them

i believe the part will be in on Tuesday and i will let you know if it is the correct part, i found a picture of a similar tow hook cover and have attached it, fingers crossed this will be the one i will receive on Tuesday

Well the onus is with them provided the bumper is original - I'd get them to refund the respray cost as well.
