Whinge/bitch/discuss/visit another universe or two, as you see fit... :D

I'd be more inclined to buy that Kia you posted earlier.

Looks nicer, costs less, and has a better warranty. Unless you can get a plug in prius and do a lot of urban driving, I'd expect the Kia to be the better car at the pump.

In saying that, the fastest thing on the motorway tends to be a prius. Guess the owners can afford the fuel so actually drive the things. Or maybe its just slippery.

Have to agree with Dieselman....The 3rd generation of Prius is a decent motor and comfort wise a big step up from the 2nd gen Prius.

You bought a job lot then?

I heard he is going to start leasing them out. He keeps the car, he'll agree they are worth 50% of their price in 3yrs, making the monthly repayment cheap for punters as they'll only pay 50% what they normally would PM, this will get his job lot making an income for him quickly.

At the end of the lease term if the car has so much as a mark he'll charge them £500 to really make some money, shove a years warranty on it, then sell them at 55% of the original price making 105% total so 5% profit plus charges. He'll stipluate in his finance terms and conditions the cars need to be serviced by him at an inflated price to really bring home the bacon.

As an Auris Hybrid owner (3rd gen Prius underneath) I rate it highly. Does everything it's meant to do, is quiet, smooth, economic and reasonably quick off the line. Great everyday car and brilliant way to justify something a tad more extreme as a toy.... :D

Yes. All Toyotas are like that.

But, not everyone is a "car" person. A car is just a device to people like that to get A to B.

A prius for its footrpint offers a spacious cabin, a quiet reliable and efficient drivetrain.

For most, thats enough to get them to sign on the dotted line.

Actually, you'd be surprised - I've certainly driven worse!

But for crawling in and around London, it's relaxing and easy which helps lower the stress! :D

As an Auris Hybrid owner...

I remember being quite surprised when they launched the Auris hybrid, as it seemed to be a direct competitor to the Prius. I wondered if it meant that they were going to discontinue the Prius as a standalone model, having managed to build hybrid technology into their mainstream car in that sector. Yet it seems the Prius is still going strong, what with the newer plug-in version.

So, two questions, if I may: in what respects (other than styling) do the hybrid versions of the Prius and Auris vary, and why did you decide to opt for the latter?

Well, in all honesty, we preferred the shape! Somehow the Auris looked less "eco warrior" and more normal car. Also, it drives a lot better. The handling is more "sporty" (honest!) and positive and just generally more "normal". The interior is actually wider in the Auris which gives better elbow room and just generally more comfortable for me. Prius has slightly nicer interior trim finish, but not enough to sway it. Auris is higher too, which was good for carrying my elderly father around (he can't get in the CLS at all).

The hybrid drive is exactly the same, but the Auris definately feels quicker off the line (had a really nice leather rally steering wheel (off the GT86) which feels good too! LOL!

I probably won't keep it long as I don't feel like running a hybrid car out of warranty and also selling with two or three years warrnaty still in tact is probably easier too. Next everyday car may well be the Lexus CT which has the same hybrid drive but is nicer inside. Ironicaly, if I'd done my homework a bit better I could've got the Lexus for just a grand more!! Ah well! :D

Prius is much bigger inside.

Auris is not as good looking..
Matter of taste, SWMBO and I much preferred the look of the Auris. :dk:

Boot space is much better in the Prius, but who cares? :D

I added a couple more points in the previous post which might help understand the decision. :)
