    fascinating, the most basic engine I worked on has been a 1959 BMC B series 1500.

    BMW R75/7 bike engine. Fred Flintstone would recognise it. It's possible to change the spark plugs while sat on it.

    I could replace the head gasket before the engine had cooled down enough to touch it.

    Well, by that I mean it would still burn you.
