I've booked some track days for my SLK230 (100K miles, well maintained, no modifications).

Will I see any benefit from using 99 RON fuel rather than 95?

I've read that turbo/supercharged engines do benefit from the higher RON fuel......can't yet find the article.

Also, don't forget to remove all unnecessary items from your boot and lower the driver's seat.

Enjoy the day.

And get a new set of brake pads on order ...

and tyres ...

If its a road car and you don't have track insurance tape up or take off your plate also.

If its the first you have been on you will be amazed especially if its an open track day so all sorts there.

You will find many pug 205 gti's old MK2 golfs going way quicker than you.

Its the way they are set up, if they are track cars the difference is night and day between a road set up car and track car.

If its your first take it easy. enjoy and have a great day

Depends if your car adjusts the timing, depending on the fuel......

But it won't be much different either way - far more important is to enjoy it, and remember to drive (just) within YOUR limitations,

BTW for those that are interested.........there is a Ma5da Racing track day at Silverstone this Thursday. Honda F1 are also expected to be testing the same day, not at the same time I hope ;)
I'll be there offering moral support to my mate starting his first MX5 season.

I would not do a track day on standard pads in an SLK 230k, they will burn and fade if you drive the car hard, swap them before you go for something like EBC red stuff or OMP pro comp. Otherwise you will have a set of trashed pads and warped discs.

Wouldn't worry about the fuel not much to be gained, a lot of good advice already given, just keep your eyes on the rear view mirror and be prepared to move off line for faster cars.

Otherwise stay safe and enjoy :)

Yes, your wallet will be lighter and the unsprung weight will be reduced :) Don't waste your money , just enjoy the experience.

Out of interest, why?

Maybe to reduce likelihood that an insurance company can uncover evidence that would prove that the damage had been caused on track, should the driver make a claim as if it were done on the road?

Why would someone want to do that? Typically policies exclude competition use and as such damage caused on track can't be claimed for on an insurance policy for road use.

thats true, but its not uncommon to tow a car off a track and out onto a road to use your AA recovery or claim for damage, happens quite often.

As for special fuel, i wouldn't bother, extra power wont make any difference, the caterhams and mk1 escorts will all still go past you with half the power. :D

oh yeah, make sure your tank is full, even if you can buy fuel at the track its bloody expensive and you'll be down to single figure mpg on the track.
