Picking up a thread in General section.

Who would be interested in a Track Day to try out their machine and have a drive in another car from the organisers.

See SL 55 on Track

Vote for definite interest and we can sort the Date and Venue out later. Could be Hullavington or Rockingham etc. Possibly September?

Not doing very well with the Track Day.

Need a lot more interest for this to be a runner mates.:( :(

Why not take your own car?

The day I was on their were Mondeos, VW Golfs, Ford Sierra's & an older gent in a 3 series BMW who didn't drive more than 60 mph.

You have to remember It's a track day not a racing day. IMHO after my recent experience of a day their a lot safer than driving home at night.

No dis-respect to anyone here or their Benz'z....but I'd love to do one of these days but like Graham, not in my car, taking my C class around a track wouldn't give me the same attraction as one of you fortunate guys in an AMG.

I know we all have our beloved Benz'z in all shapes and sizes, but I'd love to have the chance off taking a 100K AMG around a track...

I can keep dreamin i suppose.....

As I said in the other thread, I'm definitely up for a track day.

Any car is great fun!! The thrill of going round a track as fast as you like is something you can't feel on the road, no matter how fast or lawless you drive.

Driving on the track gives you a different feel that being on the road does - a warm feeling - it's hard to explain.... :D

I am up for it not sure about using my car though. Oh alright then but I won t be pushing hard.

Cheers
Ian

Count me in 101% :bannana: :bannana:
Just tell us where and when !!

From previous thread the costs are as follows:-

Costs are: £3000 for the day for the track, plus £600 for an Elise and £550 for a Caterham to be used along with your own cars (other cars optional).

This includes all marshalls, ambulances, instructors etc for the day. Based on around 40 people coming that is around £110 each. In my experience 1hr during the day of track time is enough, split into 3 x 20min sessions. That is enough for you and your own car. Add another couple of sessions in one of their cars and you probably get a reasonable amount of driving done in the day.

So we need about 40 people interested or look for another Venue? We only have 11, at the moment.

To make it an exclusive Club event it looks like the minimum number would be 25?

As we obviously haven't got enough people interested to make a Mbclub Track Day GTG.

Then perhaps anyone going on a Track Day in the future might let us know and those interested could join in???

Brian, how about just hiring an airfield? i know someone who done it for £600, obviously you dont get all the ambulances and bits, just the airfield, ive been to one that REVS magazine and it was a top laugh!

just a thought, would be alot cheaper too!

Good idea, worth looking into. Heard that some airfields have quite abrasive tarmac and chew tyres quickly.

There are a couple near me just used for gliders etc now. Often felt like asking if I could have a blast down!

I tried the other day to say what my car would do flat out but bottled out at a speed that I wouldn't like to disclose.

I would like to be able to take it somewhere safe to see what it is capable of and also to see how far you can push it when cornering before you lose it. Even though it is a diesel I think it would be fun and interesting.

I did it years ago at Shennington airfield near Banbury in my first car, a MKII Escort 1600 sport. Pretty much ruined a set of tyres and pair of trousers but it was probably the best fun I have had except for getting drunk and waking up with..........................

Same feeling here, but I have now had my car flat out (not going to say where, and I was alone) and so have got that out my system.
Only thing that suprissed me was how far short of the red line the car was at max speed (gave it a good chance but it came to a max and was going no further).

Seeing at what points the car breaks loose and when it understeers or oversteers would be what I would want to play at, but can't justify loosing a set of tyres to a days antics.

The tyre problem is worrying.

However using a proper track should be better than an airfield??

Anyone with experience like to comment?
