Hi guys i have just replaced trackrod ends and ball joints on my E300 Td. So does the masses reckon that kwik-fit are any good at setting tracking on these cars, preferences are for the glasgow area. Thanks guys. George.

I just used kwikfit to do 4 wheel tracking on my W210 E200 yesterday
Had no issues and only cost me £39.99! Cheap for 4 wheel tracking!

Car drives just like a new car now, but make sure you change bushes and anti- roll bar stabilizers before you track the car.

Depends on the mechanic but don't pay for the complete new exhaust system ,4 discs , full set of pads and 4 shock absorbers you will no doubt need.

I have had basic wheel balancing done by them in Dover as I had a puncture just before driving to down to Spain. I had abominable steering wheel vibrations all the way down between 70 and 80 mph and all the way back until I could get it done properly anywhere else.

Would I go to them for wheel alignment? Would I heck.

I had four wheel tracking done by them a few years ago on a Saab 900 that I owned. I watched in amazement as they hung there hi tech gauges on my wheels before romoving the plastic wheel trims. I pointed out to the guy that it may be more accurate to take the mesuarments from the actual wheel rim rather than the warped wheel trims.
He agreed and did the job properly after my moan.

I had it checked by another garage where they hing it over the alloys. They fiddle around so much and it moved ever so slightly each time Im not at all convinced that the final place was the correct one. It just so happened both wheel were out by a long way and by the exact same amount!?!

I think it might be an idea to try a few free checks and see who gives the average.

Does anyone know what they mean by weighting the car?

I went to Kwikfit to see what they measure the alignment at and they said they couldnt do it because it needs to be 'weighted'. The tyre fitter I took it to didnt do anything with weights so what is this about?

George

McConechys in Thornliebank use the Hunter system - £30 per axle IIRC.

I've used them before. Had a rear suspension bush that was very badly worn which they identified and sent me away (without charge) to have it sorted before they would look at aligning the wheels.

Needless to say, they got my business after the work was done.

I wouldn't let Kwik-Fit wash my car.

Wherever you get it done it needs doing on a hunter machine or you are just throwing your money away. PM wheels in motion on here Tony will reccommend someone local to you, We take all our cars there and they are 160 miles away from us so that tells you something :thumb:

Why do you need a Hunter machine?

Some of the best alignments Ive had done has been with string. Unfortunately he is out of the country now.

ABC car services are supposed to be very good and they are fairly local to me.

Because they are the best and give the best results my clk was set up at WIM the transformation was unbelievable. Most tyre places can do tracking to set an MB up properly takes the right kit, time and skill, over to WIM :thumb:

I don't believe you are in Glasgow. I know George and would only recommend places I have used with good results. He wants local.

When a place refuses work on an S500 because they know something is wrong and you get it fixed, proving them right, then you gain trust.

MB dealers don't use Hunter.

My car was recently setup on a John Bean rig and is spot on.

I rate MB dealers slightly above kwik Kr*p when it comes to tracking our local dealer probably has a Mr Bean rig :D

^ No.
A tyre centre that specialises in geometry. Two rigs constantly in use. £35 a go, used to be £45.

Any idea what the "weighting" is?
