Anyone watch Traffic Cops last night?
There was an interesting part where they parked up in an unmarked car, in a lay-by on a dual carriageway, and got the laser speed gun out. It was a good place to catch people they said, as it was a long, clear stretch of road.
At first, I thought this was going to be an example of the police cynically using a stretch where people are more likely to speed due to it being long, straight and clear, rather than say an accident blackspot. However, nothing was further from the truth. In fact, they noted that due to the road conditions it wasn't an issue to exceed the speed limit in a safe responsible manner, and wouldn't proceed against anyone doing "80 - 85". In fact, they clocked a car at 88mph and did nothing. Anyway, that wasn't really the point of my post - it was what happened next...
Then an Audi TT came past. He couldn't get a fix as it came towards him, as it was going a bit quick for him to get the sights on it, but as it drove past and was driving into the distance he got it at 116mph. This one they followed! (The gun didn't take photos, just showed speed). They eventually caught up with the guy and pulled him over. It turns out he worked for the local delaership, and was returning the car to a customer after a service!!!
- careful who you leave your car with!
Cheers,
