Traffic Cops = "Law Enforcers"

Please can you post a pic of your car? I need something to brighten up my Monday. We could be like other forums and have a 'shed of the week' competition. Think you might win

Probably this one

Mercedes C Class 180 Classic Black

Or if not, something similar, I expect.

It is a matter of great sadness to me that there are no facilities available to the Police by which they can crush a car like yours on-the spot, right by the road-side and right in front of you so as to ram home the point that vehicles should be road-worthy and legal.

Front tints? You should be banned from driving for the rest of your life. You would rather put how your car looks above the safety of other road users.

You cannot tint your headlights as it reduces the light output from that which the BSI/DOT/EU approved lights got their approval status.

Its exactly the same as the silly sods who tint their rear lights and get rear ended.... one of the few scenarios where the car being rear ended is the one at fault.

From the sound of it, your car has been modded in numeerous ways which fall fowl of the law. Its no surprise to me that the traffic cop took a special interest in your car and took an even greater interest in you since it seems you felt the need to contest nearly everything he was critical of.

Had you gracefully conceded and agreed that your car needed to have some immediate remedial work in order to comply with legislation I suspect you may just have got away with a 7 day fix it ticket to take down your local MOT station.

After that much time of the officer telling me how illegal my car is, I really doubt that I'd be smiling.

The fact that you're still grinning away at the end of this tells me quite a lot.

Why? This is the exact reason why I'm frustrated.. Why can't I keep a positive smile on my face? Yes, I'm in trouble, I have a smile on my face. But having a smile on my face doesn't mean that I'm just as serious about the situation than the officer was.

I don't understand why I am not allowed to keep a positive side to the whole situation.

Think of it this way Pete, you've just infuriated a customer at work, said customer is shouting and in your grille. But as a respectful member of staff at your business place, you keep a smile and deal with the situation.

What you're telling me is, I should be showing full emotion to the situation, somewhat upset and a bit like this ( ) without the question marks of course.

If it pleases you..

Sorry if you were half expecting it barry'd up with spoilers, body kit and possibly some toys hanging from my rear tow.

mmm. As long as it pleases one self. I can see why it attracted boys in blue attention. looks shiny though

Why would you tint the front screen? :dk:

Dead wrong. If a customer was upset and venting at me, my absolute last thing to do would be to smile at him, doing so means I'm not taking his concerns seriously. I'd be calm and respectful and let him speak before talking through the situation.

Smiling is not an option until the situation is resolved.

Is there a read up on the tinted headlights?
I fully understand what COULD happen with rear tinted lights.
But my car passed its MOT fine with the tints on the headlights. Though, it wouldn't be much of a problem now as i have removed them.

I did, didn't I mention that in my first post? I condeded, and agreed. But as part of common law, am I not allowed to question the reasoning? Because common law says I have the right to question the law if I need to. Am i not right?

I'm just wondering how much suspension travel you could possibly have left on the rear

My thought exactly, actually, speaking of the subject matter of health and safety to other road users; my HID conversion is much more of a risk than my tints.
If he had done me for my HIDs, I wouldn't be in such a raging state, infact I would be praising him.
The tinted headlights actually helped, It was literally a little bit of film to reduce the amount of light.

So are you removing the HIDs?

I too understand why it would attract the police.
I'm not questioning their reasoning for pulling me over.
I'm just trying to ventilate my frustration as to HOW he pulled me over, it's just as if they have no respect for the general public anymore..

Why would you tint the front screen? :dk:

I haven't tinted the front screen.

you forgot to tint the rear lenses!

No, I haven't forgotten to tint the rear lenses. I have no need for that.

Smiling is not an option until the situation is resolved.

For 5 years of my life, I have always been told to keep a smile on my face for whatever the situation is.
I don't understand why I can't keep a smile on my face, its my choice that I have a smile on my face, and yours to judge whether or not i'm taking his matter seriously. No? I was calm and respectful throughout the situation.
I didn't do anything wrong to deserve a threat to be arrested or have my car prohibited JUST because I had a smile on my face.

I can't tell how much i have, but I do have travel? Its not as low as it looks.

This thread cries out for tags. Come on Sp!ke, make an exception.

Being a mercedes forum, i'd half expect this forum to have some maturity and a mature manner to other members of the forum?

So are you removing the HIDs?

The car is due to be sold in about a months time, so yes they are. If anything, the officer made it easier for me as I would've been too lazy to remove the front window tints for the sale.

I'm getting comfy for this one..

This is starting to sound like a school playground arguement. He said that sir, yeah but he then said that. My Dad is bigger than your Dad etc etc. This is hilarious. Are there still baked beans in your exhaust tip?:D

Depends on the type of smile surely...

Well this was what I was told after my daughter had complained about being told off for smiling on the dinner table at school....

I really have limited sympathy. It sounds like you knew you were skating on thin ice, in which case you really are lining yourself up for however the officer is feeling on the day.

I was stopped for speeding in Wales, many moons ago. Guy was a tad sarcastic, and I did not much likd his attitude. But I was pushing my luck and rather than complaining about it I was grateful for no ticket (well a little - I still don't reckon he had enough to give me one) and only a producer.

I was basing my assumptions on what you said the police officer said to you. In this situation, I personally would not be smiling. But that's just me being old.

Nope, because I haven't done anything to the exhaust. Sorry to disappoint :D

Thanks for clearing that up for me there Mr Powell, like i had said, i was no where near out of line. My smile, was just an ordinary smile.. But i guess the officer just found it insulting. Like Pete said, he wouldn't smile if he had infuriated his customer, but for me, i would.. not because im ignorant to the situation, but because i feel i shouldn't really let the incident let me down?
