I'm running a 94 W124 E300d and i love it but it's very basic and i'd like to upgrade a few things. Can someone with more knowledge let me know how hard these systems are to transfer from one car to another and yes i know it would be easier to just go and buy a car with the right spec. but funds don't allow whilst i'm saving for a W124 E500, whereas a car with all the bits i want can be had for under £400 on eBay.

a) Air Conditioning
b) Adjustable Steering column

Installing aircon requires dismantling the entire dashboard and will cost about £2,500---ish. The electrically adjustable steering column is a fairly rare option on high speced cars so your chances of picking one up second hand are limited. I would hazard the parts new from Merc would be expensive and would involve a completely new steering column. use this page for part nos and price the bits at inchcapes site. Êàòàëîã Together your proposed modifications would probably exceed the entire car's market value.:(:(:(

I thought OP had found a car to get the parts off for £400?

Yes you are right I misread his post sorry.:o However while I am pretty sure that the electrical steering column will be fine:thumb: I am willing to wager the air con will be Kna****d  and would need substantial modification to run the permitted refrigerants. In both cases unless the poster knows his way about the innards of an MB dashboard and wiring I would recommend leaving things as is.

Swapping AC is mission impossible.

Ok, i'll just put the money towards the e500 :thumb:

An aftermarket integrated air con system can be bought as a kit for £1200 new.

Or installed for £1650.

They will need the car for 4 days.

Fair do-s seems like my figure was a bit over the top--based on a quote from several years back. However I would be very careful about who you let take your dashboard to bits. You could end up with a car with perfect air-con and a lot of other niggling problems? Here's what happens. PeachPartsWiki: Dashboard Replacement
I am not saying don't do it just know what's involved?
