Transmission Issue- Doesn't go in reverse

Hi All,
I am facing an interesting issue that I can't figure out a solution for. I have e-280 (2009 plate) with automatic transmission. When I start the car I can move gears from Park to drive. Occasionally, I can't move from drive back to reverse or park gear. However, when I switch engine off and restart then I can move back and forth between all gears. I took the car to an independent garage, but he can't replicate the problem. In addition, no fault code comes up. The car has very low mileage (80K) and runs well otherwise. However, this issue becomes a big nuisance especially when I can't reverse in middle of a 3 points turn/parallel park while holding up traffic on both side of the road. I will appreciate any suggestion as to how to resolve this issue..

Is it 5g transmission?
Could be the transmission shifter module.

When mine failed the lever wont occasionally go back to p and sticks on reverse.... Cycle ignition and its back to normal.

When the fault occurs , pay attention to the gear display on the dash , it might go blank indicating a fault.

A scanner should also flag a fault.
