Does anyone know of what is involved with a transmission software update. How much would it cost " ball park" figure would be fine. And is it recommended with the MCT transmission, considering my car was one of the first to have this transmission. Looking over the history an update hasn't been carried out on the car.

The transmission is all working spot on I'm just curious, would it be of benefit to have this done. What if anything can be achieved by having a transmission update?

Also who would be best option to carry out the update?
Cheers, Tom

My dealer charges me half-hour work (£60) for 'software updates'. They've done so far the engine and transmission (7g+).

Is that an MB main dealers. What does the updates do exactly, do they sharpen up the memory of the ECU TCU. Can you notice a difference in your opinion and is it worth it having it done. Do you have the MCT transmission, would you say it improved it somewhat?

Thanks

It was an MB dealer, though any specialist with Genuine STAR can do this as well.

No idea what the software updates do, personally I didn't feel much different.

My transmission is 7g+ (not MCT).

Have any members had a software update on their MCT transmission. If so did you notice a difference with the way the transmission performed.

Mines coming up for 10+ years old now. One of the first vehicles to have the MCT. Be interested to know if an update is worth it. And does it really improve anything on the transmission, performance or shifting wise.

I asked to have the update done that was carried out FOC. I assume when a firmware update is available it will be an improvement to fix something. Can't say I noticed much difference but could be running 600psi now. ;)

Appreciate the info you have shared.

I would have thought an Indy would do it for free (ish) on top of a fluid and filter change , which is where I’d put my money .

This is what rather confuses me. If it can be done as a freebie if you like it can't have much impact on overall improvement of the shifts.

Some Indy's might not have the technology to update the gearbox TCU. I'll have to ring around tomorrow and see if what benefits this can be had if any.

Appreciate your advice, thanks

Unless there’s an issue then I would be tempted to leave it alone.

We don't because we have to own any issues that the update may cause.

Additionally, if you have a remap etc, then this may be overwritten, as many updates are dependent on other modules, so involve updating all the modules at once.

Brentwood, Essex. I may give MB Chelmsford a call tomorrow. See what if any this update can achieve.

Thanks, Tom

Its a good point and something I thought about before asking to have the transmission firmware updated since I didn't want the ECU touched. I was assured that only the Transmission firmware would be carried out.

There a few links here and here giving pointers to what the update achieves.

Not sure what they are using, as if there is an update for the engine ECU you don't get a choice whether to do it or not, it forces you. (on Xentry)

Often makes for an unwelcome surprise

But this what I can't get my head around. If an update is available. On a car that hasn't had a so called update. What's its purpose and what can/ does it achieve?

On the TCU im referring to.

My gearbox is in perfectly good working order in all settings. It just cross my mind reading other threads would it be of benefit if the car had the so called TCU update applied to the car.

Example, could it make the gear shifts even more smooth. This is the information I would like to know.

Like I have posted above. If an update is available, what can it achieve.

I get the if it ain't broke and all that. No harm in inquiring is there!
