We were due to attend a wedding in the midlands on the first weekend in July 2022. Wedding has now been postponed (again). We have cancelled the hotel we had booked but our mutt has been booked into our preferred kennels and can't be cancelled without loss of 50% deposit.

So we are looking to go away elsewhere for that weekend. Under consideration is Brooklands to visit the Motor Museum and possibly Mercedes Benz World.
We would also like to visit Hampton Court Palace which is allegedly about 7 miles away.

Can anyone with local knowledge advise best method of transport between Brooklands & Hampton Court.
As far as I can make out it's a short walk to a bus stop with bus into Weybridge then change bus to Hampton court taking about 75 minutes.
Alternatively a 25 minute walk to Weybridge Station then about 30 minutes on the train.
Third option is driving and parking near Hampton Court. Would parking be an issue particularly as there is a garden festival on at Hampton Court the following week? Does congestion charging/ULEZ have to be taken into account?

Any advise welcome on these options

It sounds as if you've already used used the journey planner at tfl.gov.uk - so that's probably the best advice you'll get on public transport. I can't answer about parking, but you would be well outside the congestion charge and ULEZ areas.

I'd drive. You have easy parking at Brooklands & MB world, and parking will still be easy around Hampton Court.

Easiest tactic is to park in East Molesey, possibly down by the East Molesey Cricket club. East Molesey is the best place to be looking for a meal.

I would recommend The Albany in Thames Ditton as a good riverside dining pub with large balconies overlooking the Thames. Easy parking.

If you fancy a stroll generally in the Hampton Court area there's an excellent path along the Thames in both directions.

If you don't want to drive, a ride hailing service such as Uber or taxi will be quicker than the hour transfer via New Malden.

There is a car park at Hampton Court Palace, although it's not particularly big. If you don't get in there then Bushy Park is next door and has 3 or 4 (free) car parks. Approx. 10 minute walk from the palace.

It's a nice area - years ago I lived in East Molesey (commuting into London from Hampton Court station).

Are you suggesting they are no longer free?

No, just that they were free last time I was there.

A quick check on the website confirms they still are though:

By Car

There are four car parks within Bushy Park and these are clearly marked on the Bushy Park map.

Parking is free of charge. There is no parking when the vehicle gates are locked. You may be subject to a fixed penalty notice issued by the Metropolitan Police Service if your vehicle is still in the park after vehicle gate closure.

Please note that every Saturday between 9:00 am and 11:00 am the car parks are likely to be extremely busy as the park is the venue for a recurring sporting event. In addition on the first Sunday of every month a further sporting event takes place between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. Once again the car parks are likely to be extremely busy.

Alternatively you can use Clapperstile car park - accessible from Queens Road, Teddington - and then enter Bushy Park on foot via Clapperstile Gate.

Remember, do not park on the roads or grassland.

There are Blue Badge car parking locations shown on the Bushy Park map.

Thanks for the help - hotel now booked 👍

First of all, none of the areas you mention are anywhere near the ULEZ or Congestion Charging Zone :)

Transport between Brooklands and Hampton Court is pretty easy, about 20 minutes drive without traffic. Parking is currently free in Bushy Park and about five-ten minutes walk from the palace although they have been on about introducing parking charges for some time.

Mike has some good suggestions. You can park near the cricket club or down Palace Road if you can find a space and walk about 10-15 minutes from there. The Albany is nice albeit going a little further away, but offers decent food and drink for a pub. It can get quite busy in the summer - would advise booking if you wanted a nice outside table.

Likewise East Molesey has a good selection of restaurants/pubs/places to eat as does Walton and Weybridge.

If you don’t want to drive, Uber from Brooklands is probably easiest and cheaper than getting buses etc, I reckon it would be around £15 each way (you could always get out somewhere around East Molesey and walk along the river or just over the bridge if you prefer)

Good that you’ve noted the flower show, traffic will be a nightmare when that is on

If you decide to go and need any further advice or have other questions just shout, I know the area very well :)

As you go through the doors of MB World, take a moment to look behind you across the car park, where you'll see part of the banking of the old Brooklands track. Imagining the blower Bentlys and the like doing over 100mph on it is truly terrifying.

Yes and while in the vicinity be sure to pick up some artisan confections from here (the Weybridge shop):

Four of those please

There's a car park behind the library opposite. Its definitely worth a detour.

A bumpy surface with trees around much of the circuit ... no margin for error.

Interesting to compare the size of the Bentley as it passes other cars.

That would interest SWMBO but I'm more of a pork pie/pastie/scotch egg kind of guy.........

Thanks for the advice.
Bushy Park was spot on for free parking. Parked near the Diana Fountain & 10 minute walk to Hampton Court.
Ate at the 1907 Grill at Brooklands Hotel on our first night & at The Albion Pub, East Molesey on the second night. Both very good.
Brooklands Hotel quite nice but had a strange policy of not servicing the room on 2 night stays so had to request top ups for tea/coffee/milk/etc & wash our own cups up in the shower room - they claim to be 4 star:dk:.
Went to MB World. The view of the old Brooklands track is even better from the 1st & 2nd floor windows.
Didn't get to the Brooklands Museum as we had to get back early on Sunday (family issues) so a future visit needs planning.
