Spent some quality time wheel cleaning this weekend and in addition to the usual joy ended up having to use solvent to shift quite a lot of icky tar like stuff. Great.

I have used the Turtle Wax stuff which is a polish/protective sealant for (clean) alloys. Works OK for a while so that you can just wipe the dust off with a paper towel, but within a week or so back to the usual sticking.

Is there any other product which gives longer term protection?

I was going to buy some of that Diamondbrite stuff and when the car's bodywork is done use the remainder on the wheels! Most oem wheels are just painted and lacquered like the rest of the bodywork so would likely benefit from the same treatment :) .

Diamondbrited my wheels, they stay cleaner as the brake dust cant stick so well and are they easier to clean, literally hoses straight off.

Avoid harsh 'Super Wheels' type cleaner like the plague!! Better off using a polish or even T-Cut rather than that evil stuff!

Yes, it is vile stuff  Next time I feel brave enough to take the wheels off to do a full clean I will try the Diamondbrite.
