Truly, they walk amongst us....

And if they got hit the cry would ring out that network rail should do something about these big fast heavy things running along these shiny metal things
Parents should be named and shamed and charged with endangering life

And those last two should be banned from keeping dogs.

Following the theme of “they walk amongst us”, this evening Mrs D and I were sat in the car enjoying a refreshing iced coffee.

We watched a woman fill up her car, go and pay, came out and got back in her car. She then hopped back out and whilst the car was still beside the pump she lit a cigarette and stood there smoking it!

When she realised (or was told over the tannoy) that she shouldn’t t be smoking on the forecourt, she walked 10 feet and stood right next to a huge cage filled with gas cylinders. In a petrol station.

I’m sure that the risk is actually relatively low but my goodness if the worst happened - however remote - then the consequences would be truly catastrophic for her and everyone around her.

Still it stopped the inside of her brand new Audi smelling of smoke 😳

We’ve just been to the supermarket and it was absolutely heaving, probably only 3 or 4 available spaces, and all of them were a little tight for me to get in and out easily.

I spotted an X7 in one of my favourite spaces, an end space with a big hatched area beside it, so I can park with my tyres on the line without inconveniencing anyone.

The engine was running, lights and wipers were on, so I thought it must be leaving soon, especially as it had parked well over the line on the other side, taking two spaces!

I waited for the X6 to move. But it didn’t. So I did another lap of the car park, but I still couldn’t park in a large space so I waited for the X6 to move again. But it didn’t.

I then found another space but as I walked past I noticed that the car didn’t have anyone inside, but had been sat with the engine running for as long as I’d been there!

I reported it to a security guard and we went over to the car together to investigate, and sure enough there was nobody in the car, and a dog on the back seat!!

The security guard returned to the store and found the owner. They were busy getting the children out of the car and forgot to switch it off and take the keys!

They had been in the store for close to half an hour before the guard found them, all the time with the engine running and a dog bouncing off all four corners of the interrior.

It’s remarkable that the car wasn’t stolen. It’s even more fortunate that the dog didn’t touch the accelerator as even more remarkably it had been left in Park!

It could have been a very different end to the day had the car been stolen or worse the car ploughed into other people. They never bothered to find me and say thanks!

They really do walk amongst us.

Because of hot weather i think the car could have been left running on remote start with the aircon and dog inside. If a thieve got in, the engine would deactivate and immobiliser would kick in. I reckon this might be the reason because of the dogs? 🙂

No the guard came to find me afterwards, they had actually forgotten to switch off the engine and lock it.

Oh I see, that's just plain and simply clumsy 🤦‍♂️

Presumably the dog was going to get left in the car?
People like that bring out the Hulk in me 🤬
Yes, I assume so as they couldn’t take it into M&S, so presumably leaving the dog behind was deliberate.

Some years ago Mrs D reported that a dog had been left inside a car at a Pistonheads event at the British GT at Silverstone. I can’t remember the car but it was a nice one and parked in the Pistonheads “show” area. Security smashed the window and freed the dog!

They'll have pulled up, the stop/start will have kicked in, bit of distraction, got out and walked away with the keyless entry fob in their pocket. After a little while the car decides to start itself because it's been sat too long with the ignition on but no engine running. More common than you'd think.

As far as I know the ‘stop/start’ disables as soon as the driver un-clicks their seat belt or opens their door. 🤷‍♂️🧐
