I contacted my local dealer with a view to upgrading to a newer model (either A or B), with extra kit over standard.

The dealer informed me that if I wanted specific upgrades (such as Audio 50) then electronic component shortages caused by the Japanese Tsunami/Earthquake meant that they couldn't fulfil such an order - whatever the value of the custom I was offering.

Has anyone else encountered this?

@Twas on the news today about the problems in Japanese industry post Tsunami...and yes that effects carmakers around the world.

I've been trying to order a car in a specific colour with COMAND and I've been told they are only able to order in a choice of three colours, blue, silver and black ( I forget the exact shades). This is to do with a paint fixer shortage.

Also they can't get multi-disc mechanisms for the COMAND so it will change to a single CD/DVD player but with a cost reduction of about £200.

The CD issue I can live with, but I'm holding out for the colour I want so I could be in for a long wait!

new slk vario roof is available, std metal roof apparently is short supply

same for the sports pack body kit, short supply, and no not because its got a waiting list..

Violent weather across Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee has halted production at Toyota and Mercedes-Benz plants in Alabama, as emergency workers try to assess two days of damage in the region. On Wednesday, a mile-wide tornado destroyed parts of Tuscaloosa, Ala., damaging the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International auto-assembly plant just north of the city. That plant builds the GL, M, and R class vehicles. The same storm cell of multiple tornadoes wreaked havoc along a 300-mile stretch, taking out power to an unknown number of auto parts manufacturers and other businesses as far north as Virginia.
A Mercedes plant spokeswoman was quoted in the Tuscaloosa News earlier today saying that Mercedes had halted operations because suppliers were unable to deliver parts due to the storms. In some areas, highway exit ramps were damaged and closed.
As of this afternoon, the Mercedes plant had not resumed operations and a spokeswoman told Automotive News it would remain down Friday.

Is this the voice of God saying Drive a Prius ? ;)

I didn't think God came with batteries.......
