Hi

I have toyed with a while of getting one of these plug in chips for my E350 cdi Blue Efficiency. I heard DTUK were good. I ordered and received the item and have had a bad experience. I have called Superchips who advised me on the phone that none of these plug in boxes are any good, as all they do is cause a resitstance into fooling the ECU and delivering more power, a crude effort he said. The proper way he claimed was to have a proper re map of the ECU

Has anyone else had any experience of re-mapping and chipping?

Thanks

Brabus D6(III) (if you have a 231bhp unit) will give 272bhp/590Nm.
Brabus D6S (if you have a 265bhp unit) will give 313bhp/640Nm.

Neither are cheap though :(.

Hi, i don't really want to get dragged into a slagging match over this but my 2 penneth worth is that superchips will say that about anyone that is in the same business as them. DTUK as have a lot of other companies got it wrong occasionally, they have a good name amongst companies selling tuning box's. Having a chip fitted is no different to having a tuning box, it just an item added to alter the fueling to your vehicle and will use a generic map that is sold to tuners the world over. The only way you will get a map specifically for your vehicle is if you go to a tuning company with a dyno and who will spend a couple of hours setting your vehicle up and it will not be a cheap 2 minute job. Its a case of "horses for courses". If you want a good job it will cost, if you want to pay reasonable money you will get either a generic map loaded to your ecu or an expensive tuning box and if you don't want to waste a lot of money then you have to be happy with what you get.
And before everyone starts shouting the odds about this been better than that a lot of remaps are available to buy for anyone with the software to do remap's which means they are not for your specific car which also means they are no better than a tuning box at the end of the day

Buy Brabus Steinbauer or DTE. These are the best boxes and just as good if not better than a remap. Your car will be locked so remap might not be possible. A top quality box is what you needed to buy.

Ok, thanks, seems helpful. The bloke at Superchips wasnt slagging off the competition at all, he just said that with my car they would need it a couple of days as they would need to do a proper re-map as it involves unlocking the ECU...so was explaining that all these tuning boxes/kits/chips or whatever you want to call them, are not ideal. He claimed they are just a crude way of interfering with the voltage to the ECU to confuse it into delivering more fuel hence an increase in power. So was wondering how the Brabus chip and the DTE ones are better than say DTUK or Racechip for example?

where do I get this Brabus chip from, if I google it it comes up with all sorts of sites but none that tell me exactly how to buy one

Brabus D6S (if you have a 265bhp unit) will give 313bhp/640Nm.

Nice :)

I'm happy with my D6

Mercedes dealership, ebay, for sale section of forums would be the best bet, not cheap from main dealer though.

I got mine from my dealer to maintain my warranty

Bit sceptical how Brabus always claim another 48 bhp on top of whatever MB state!
