clk220cdi 2005
Hi everyone,
I've just picked up a 2005 clk220cdi which is in good condition despite being a bit high on the miles and was wondering about chipping/tuning it. Nothing ridiculous just bit more power/economy. are these plug in chips any good? don't want too spend mega bucks, just get a bit more out of it. many thanks in advance for any advice

Great if you want to fool sensors to overpressurise the fuel injection system and the boxes can't circumvent torque limiters within the ecu software so rarely get anywhere the usually highly inflated marketing figures .

so not really worth the money then? are there any inexpensive ways of doing it

Remapping and fooling box are totally different things. Box sends offset pressure data to ecu, remap actually aims to higher charge pressures by using all car instruments 'knowing' what they are doing. Too bad destroyer bixes are cheap, goos quality remapping is pretty expensive. in common sense point of view not worth of it, but on other hand car behavior changes totally. I have NO experience about 4-mug engines, but my OM642 became to different animal after remapping. Some sort of transmission control was made at same time, and got rid of any 'rubber band' effects or stupid delays. Difference between 4cyl and 6 cyl is huge, but I believe relatively effect is larger in 4cyl engine than 6cyl where power and torque is already much better.

I used to have one same as yours, I looked into remapping it and it turned out the auto box is only rated for slightly more torque than it puts out as standard. Be careful.

CKS performance come highly recommended

Not on this forum they don't.
Their customer service is indifferent (that's being polite) and lots of thier parts are bought from China/Taiwan/US and sold with a hefty mark up.
I wouldn't entertain them personally.
MSL/GAD/BFT are the only places I'd consider.

I'd be choosing the "Don't bother" option before I considered CKS.
