is it possible to tune a w208 clk 200 kompressor ? 2001 model, would like a bit more uumph from it.
thanks

Hi Moss,

I'd have a quick search on the forum :)

To be honest, the quick answer is 'not really'. What I mean is, it's possible to spend money trying to make your 200K quicker, but it's probably better to sell your car and upgrade considering the prices of CLKs these days.

You could try a 'sprint booster' that makes the throttle slightly more responsive, but it'll never make the car any more powerful. Other options involving remapping, exhausts, different pulleys etc etc all seem like a waste of money to me considering how much you could pick up an '01 CLK230K for (as an example) :)

You've got plenty of choice in CLKs now - 230K, 320, 430 V8 or even an AMG 55!

Brabus K4 tuning kit is one option, smaller SC pulley another, Remus exhaust, not aware of any major ones you can do other than NOS. My W208 230K has a Brabus K1 tuning kit and it is very different over the standard car more flexible and more mid range torque & Power great for overtaking. Hope that helps but I'm sure there will be someone with a lot more knowledge than me come along

thanks for the swift replys guys, im new to the MB club, and have had the clk only a wk, so cant change just yet lol.. was hoping a simple re map might be in order ?

On the re map front there's an Evolution chip from the guys at Evolution in Blackpool, gives you 15 bhp and 20NM more thats all. I drove one they had done and could not tell the difference between that and the standard car so seamt a bit of a waste of money. They main difference you can make is with a pulley conversion for the supercharger

Hi Moss,

Sorry if that came accross differently to how I intended.

Basically, all I am trying to say is that unlike some cars (eg modern turbocharged ones, etc), there's no 'quick buck' gains to be had from your engine on the CLK200K.

It will be cheaper to change cars and you'll get much better gains than by ploughing money into tuning at such an early stage. If you're craving more oomph after 1 week, things will only get worse.

Another more Powerful option from evolve is

MercedesCLK (W208)CLK200 Kompressor163 BHP
Stage 1: ECU Remap +15 BHP +22Nm Torque. (£299) Stage 2: ECU Remap and Pulley change +37 BHP +40Nm Torque (+£350)

This would give you 200 bhp if you went to stage 2 which would put you above the performance of a standard 230 clk for £649 not bad in the pounds for points stakes

I dont know < £650 to get the performance above a 230 CLK good value for money in my book I think?

Hey no worries Will, didnt take it the wong way, see what your saying though, bugger, looks like i maybe choose the wrong merc, nice drive and all that, only thing is a slight lack of power, i will get used to it :) ive come from a audi TT, with 225 bhp on 4wheel drive so did expect a slight power loss...

Hmm, I dunno.

I'd rather have a standard CLK230K than a tuned up 200K, personally. Plus it'll probably be cheaper to insure a standard 230K than a modified 200K as well.

Cost of a CLK200K + mods + extra insurance will probably be as much as a decent 230K IMHO.

Yeah actually you are probably right, I just thought if he had no option of change then might be worth a shot at the evolve mod.
I agree a 230k would be the preferable option, love mine:bannana:

A good few people on the forum (myself included, some years back) looked into tuning the M111 Kompressor engines, and to be honest, there's very few who've actually bothered in the end.

I think your 230K sounds great but IIRC it was already done for you :) Not sure if it's really worth the plunge these days for a standard car though considering how cheap it is to upgrade.

Out of interest, does that 'Evolve' modification include EVERYTHING for £649. I mean labour for fitting the pulley, VAT etc. Do they change anything else - spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, etc?

Hi Will

I agree don't think it is worth spending on as you say so cheap to upgrade these days. As regards the evolve mod I'm not too sure for the 200k but when I was looking at it when I was buying for a 230k for the remap, pulley, new belt, fluids etc inc labour was £1725. So based on that I was actually going to buy a 320 or 430 but when on a business trip to London I spotted the 230k with Brabus kit, it had a few minor things wrong with it and was a one owner car with ful MBSH, I managed to do a great deal (so I thought at the time, but as you say they are so cheap now it's unbelievable) still its only used on weekends and I love it and have no intentions of parting with it yet. Sometime I still think I maybe should have bit the bullet and gone for the V8

best regards
Ian

Hi Moss,

There is a specialist about 45 minutes from you (John Griffiths in Reading). I know that they are an agent for Superchips, so may have something that can get you a little extra 'oomph'.

Regards

Richard

There's a black 430 on Pistonheads for five grand .... ;)
