Why do we need a new thread every time there is a TV and COMAND question relating to the same car ?

Warning! Thread police alert!
He does have a point though.

This thread is 100% pointless, as the only answer given was "call me". We have learned nothing! :(

Maybe ... but Miro's post was before Alfie's. I read Alfie's response as "no point asking there as you're just getting a smart-aleck reply".

Standing-by to be corrected though :D

As I don't have a VIN for the car I couldn't tell you one single thing about which parts are valid. If the part in question is no longer sold then it probably wont even appear on EPC.

Parts sold in 11/04 are no longer listed in EPC. There was an enormous turnover of part numbers in the last 12 months and the question would have been perfectly relevant in the context of an eBay photo or a personal photo.

Not withstanding that an explanation of how to identify a W211 TV tuner was already posted indicating that all A211 xxx xx xx tuners for W211 have a Brown covered shell SMB connector called a FAKRA which the W220 ones do not have with the exception of the DVB-T box which has data pins and is deceptively like a W220 tuner but is still valid for W211.

Just because it is a new thread does not mean I have totally forgotten everything I keyed in and now feel the compelling urge to key it all in again simply because the OP feels obligated to provide no continuity or a photo.

I think I've been mis-understood on this issue.

I left a reply for Sanj to call me as I wanted to speak to him and do not have his number with me but I know he has mine. My reply was not intended to infer any opinion good or bad on any of the posts in the thread. I think Miro has supplied some excellent info, way beyond my depth.

I am attempting to help Sanj in the background on this and if/when there is a resolution to his issues, I no doubt the results will be posted here somewhere.

Sanj,

No problem. I'll come back to you as soon as possible.

High Head Unit Teile Nr.:A211 820 2197 001

Head unit is not valid for TV, please refer back to your other thread where a photo of the rear of the head unit indicates the TV capable functions (green FAKRA connector) in conjunction with rear seat screen (DB25)

----------------------------------------------------------

DVD-Rechner Teile Nr.:A220 870 35 89 002

The Nav drive is the same for all cars but may need a firmware upgrade just for the run of the mill upkeep.

----------------------------------------------------------

A 211 827 68 42 = no longer a valid part number (as explained)

One more time .... mo ichi do !

Eonly.jpg

HOWEVER- there is such a thing as MODIFIED unit with special technique for attaching TV connector to such a COMAND that does not have it originally.

So that unit is which of the two part numbers ?

If that photo is of A211 820 2197 then something is seriously wrong. But if it is the other part A 211 827 68 42 then I cant say anything as it is no longer sold.

Either way ... what seems to be the problem ?

yes that is a pic of A211 820 2197 .

The point of all this is to make sure I order the correct unit with tv and rear screen capatability .

as to part A 211 827 68 42 I have seen pics of this unit and it definately has all connecters you said were needed.(green fakra and printer style conecter) as you state is no longer valid do I take it I shouldnt buy one ???

With all due respect Sanji, where on earth are you finding all this junk. After some additional digging neither of those two head units are delivered from factory with TV functions. Yet you show me that it is with TV function in a photo.

Something is not as it should be.

Look below in the parts ordering system and indicate to me please why the parts numbers below do not indicate CODE 860 + 863 against any of the two part numbers you are offering.

I can understand one mistake in EPC but I have no explanation for two.

I will make a bet that the serial number on the outside does not match the serial number on the inside. So my advice is that you seriously consider buying from an honest dealer.

Look at A211 820 22 97 and you will see it is valid. The power of photos !

wow ! thanks for that

So in all i should make sure I get A211 820 22 97

May i just say the pics where sent to me buy a german company and I have no way of verifiying the parts numbers to pics .

thanks again Sanjiv

PS : TO ONCE AND FOR ALL STOP CONFUSION ON THIS MATTER FOR ALL FORUM USERS MIRO WOULD YOU BE SO KIND AS TO LIST ALL PART NUMBERS OF COMAND W211 UNITS THAT WILL DEFINATELY TAKE TV TUNER AND REAR SCREEN

THANKS

I will list all of the part numbers if you will list all of the VIN numbers that can accept them.

I buy these parts from MBenzNL + BigSis.... so according to my FedEx online report in the time it has taken to discuss this thread the parts that left the Netherlands on Friday night Sydney time arrived in Sydney on Monday morning (yesterday) and we are still talking about buying something from someone and my parts have already arrived.

So I think its best that you find a supplier that is credible and let Mercedes worry about the part numbers.

I,ll take that as a no ! :(

You are doing all this to save $10. In the end you can save yourself all this fooling around and get the job done or try to beat the market with endless problems and strange suppliers.

Do you want a good solution or just to save a few dollars ? Who is going to install all this ?

With all due respect Miro, Sanj is simply trying to establish what parts he needs to complete the job. He has asked for your advice as you clearly know a lot about these things. Perhaps he has been given some bad advice elsewhere who knows. That is probably why he is asking for your help. The savings he could potentially make are a lot more than $10 as well you know. Steve is the undisputed authority on COMAND and can supply just about everything. But he is not the cheapest in the market place nor is he the only person that can fit these components. I happen to know that Sanj has access to a Mercedes specialist employee who can and does fit these things all the time.

I think your response a little harsh when all he is asking is for your advice.
