TV - no picture?

I have today installed a TV tuner to go with my Comand. I opted for the pukka MB Comand cable loom (£270 - ouch!) but this loom includes all necessary connections, including all comand, all tv, all cd changer etc. I purchased Clarion diversity TV aerials - the MB were just too expensive.
The problem is, when I tune in the TV, I get perfect audio but no picture. Just a blue screen with the message about 'no TV while the car is in motion'. I don't know what to try next - The screen stays the same with the engine on/off, car in park or not, car stationary or moving. I am at a loss to what to try next. Can anybody make any suggestions?
All other comand functions are working OK. I suspected that the speed signal could have cocked-up and perhaps the system thinks that the car is moving, but it works OK on the nav and the indicated speed on the diagnostic page is OK.
Help!

Hi Paul

i have just managed to get my Alpine system working !

what tv tuner did you opt for? all i can think of is that the tv tuner itself may have a handbrake wire, you should ground this, i know that the clarion tv tuner has a handbrake wire on it.

I have a handbrake wire on my screen, navigation, and tv tuner which i have grounded all 3!

hope this helps

It's the MB tuner. There are no additional wires (I think....), all of the interlocks are via the canbus and speed signal (again, I think).
I still can't get it to work.....

Paul

same happened to me on the E class W210

I took it to the dealer and they fixed it - cost me an hours labour though!

Strangely, the ML install worked fine first time.

So how much was the whole thing - TV Tuner, aerial and cable loom and any other bits you needed ?

-bin thinking about adding this myself

Paul, if you can wait till monday i will ask my mate whos a mercedes main dealer electrician.....

The tuner cost £155 from e-bay. The cable a further £270, and the arials £55. Installation is straightforward providing you don't mind dismantling bits-and-bobs on your car. Paying for the wiring loom bought tears to my eyes - but it really is good. This loom is a full comand loom including cd, tv, arial connectors etc etc. The MB part no. is A208 540 49 10 - I spent ages obtaining all the proper connectors and making my on loom when I installed by Comand and CD changer, I should have bought the loom then and saved myself a whole lot of trouble. It also looks much better than my previous home-made loom.
BTW - teletext works fine, but still no picture.

hi Paul,#

spoke to my mate yesterday, he basically said you would have to go to a main dealer to have it reset, its something that has to be programmed into your command unit, he wasnt too detailed, but apparently isnt something we would be able to do!

if you are passing east london at any point he would be able to do it for you!

hope that helps a little!

Thats a good price for an MB Tuner !

Is it the new version with the two pairs of AV phono sockets?

:)

The tuner has got six phono connections at the rear - I believe that these are composite video plus audio left and right - times two (the menu lists two aux inputs). I really don't know much about the tuner, the last owner said it was from a 1999 s class. It was advertised on e-bay, I figured that I would be bidding against half the people on this forum! I fancy an additional monitor for the kids in the back - the tuner seems to support further monitors but I don't know if these need to be MB or if any monitor could be used (some cheap ones on e-bay.....)
Does anybody know anything about additional monitors?

Paul

for additional monitors you have 2 options

1) buy a megacomm adapter which will allow up to 2 tft monitors(I have a 7" Sony wide screen attached to my MB TV tuner in the ML)
or 2) you can buy an MB rear monitor from the S class .

By far the cheapest option is the megacomm route.

I have both as I got a surplus Mb rear monitor from a dealer that had it sitting on a shelf for 2 years. The S class monitor is in my W210 E 55

all fitted by my good self - if I can do it then I guess anyone who isnt worried about pulling their new merc to bits can

:)

Steve,
There is no Comand 1. There are only Comand 2.0 and Comand 2.5. The number stands for the DIN size of the unit. Comand 2.0 fits in a double din aperture, Comand 2.5 fits in a two-and-a-half DIN aperture.
The Comand 2.5 is a different design, but I think the functions are the same as Comand 2.0.

Latest update,
Went to stealer today, he plugged in Star computer, two minutes later my TV picture worked ok!
And I was £28 lighter..........
