Anyone take apart an 2002 SL Media unit with TV(mine doesn't have the actual tuner) & know what wire or supply is used to switch to TV? I would like to trigger the TV so I can add a rear view camera interface to engage in reverse.

You have to open up the HU and, after breaking the connection between the HU Mobo and the display panel, install a small daughterboard, which does the actual signal swap.I doubt I can use that type of interface as the HU & display are one unit.

If the stars are aligned, and it all fits together, the results can be very good. I have done this on an NTG2 and it works well. Looking at the install info on the Car Solutions (& other) sites will give a better idea
Sorry it did not work for you.I have done this on a CLK where I had to swap ribbons from monitor to motherboard & inserted a daughterboard in between...the stars didn't align, most probably(after numerous hours/e-mails of work) the unit has some problem as the supplier wanted me to send it back for testing; Car-Interface in Italy
I have done this quite a few times on various cars, the only issue is, as Richard explained, there is no auto switching & I don't want to press TV so to see rear view camera!
Hey CrippoSorry it did not work for you.
But, if you choose the right Video Controller/daughterboard combo, then selecting reverse will give you the Rev Cam pic on the COMAND screen - trust me it does on my W209 CLK - no muss no fuss & no buttons to push.
It may well not be a solution you can apply to an early SL (to Start with you need to know the Display make, part number etc or at the very least the LCD pinout (which apparently needs to be either 30 pin or 28 pin)) but if you can get the RGB & CSync signals to the right place it could be possible
