Just heard on the news that TVR have laid off one third of their employee's. :(

That's the Warranty repair department after they're fixed all manufacturing issues... no? :o

Rollercoaster

All part of the giant rollercoaster that is the TVR company. The guys working there should be used to it by now. As far as TVR owners are concerned their personality profile could never be described as "Risk Averse" so they probably wont give it a second thought.;)

Gloom and Doom

TVR is to close its UK factory in Blackpool with the loss of 260 jobs.
Britain's biggest independent car maker will cease production at the plant in six months.

Half the firm's staff had already been told to stay home from today after production plunged from 12 cars a week to just two.
The Transport and General Workers Union said it was told the company would keep a presence in the UK but would be relocating production.
A mass meeting of workers next week will decide on the union's next move.

Andy Robertson of the TGWR said: "We are devastated by this news which has stunned the workforce."

The firm was bought two years ago by 23-year-old Russian millionaire Nikolay Smolensky.

The firm was founded in 1947 and its vehicles have long been popular with sports car enthusiasts.

Off the rails!

Looks as if the cars are coming off the rollercoaster rails for the last time.:( It would appear that being "saved" by a Russian "businessman" is a dubious fate. Just ask the Heart of Midlothian football team!;)

Too confusing a model range, all rather sad and of course not even British any more.

Still got Morgan though

TVR is Britain's largest independent sportscar owner and was bought by Russian tycoon Nikolai Smolensky in 2004. .....

TVR plans for 2006 and beyond......
TVR will be building a new factory in Blackpool, so they can handle increased sales in Europe, and in several years, the USA. See more at Pistonheads.com.

I can't find the quotes, but at the time of purchase there were several comments about moving the production.

Sounds hopeful but lets wait and see. Probably looking for a big development grant! Remember the DELOREAN fiasco!

I'm sure I have read somewhere that TVR sales have reached an all time low. anyone can try to talk a business up, but if your not selling the product then the future is very bleak?

I know a chap who is friendly with the previous owner of TVR as he doesn't actually live too far away from me and from what he's told him the reason behind it is that TVR as a company was sold but the actual factory building was not and the problems have been caused because of a dispute over rent on the building and so they have axed a lot of the work force and are relocating

Doesn't correspond with the other stories about sales going down the pan....

Yeah I know and I agree but at the same time, its not the kind of thing they'd broadcast on the news. I am a little sceptical about it myself but at the same time I could see it being true. Why else are they relocating? I mean obviously I know they're saving money on costs but the factory at bispham isn't exactly the largest ever (ford used to send me to the college down the road from there back when I was a mechanic so we have been there a couple of times)

I am a little 50/50 about it at the moment but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true

It certainly may be a factor. You'd then have to ask whether the rent dispute came about because TVR couldn't (wouldn't) afford it, or because the landlord increased it.

PR is all about painting yourself the right colour. Far better to blame the (partial) demise of your car company on the evil avarices of landowners than to admit you might have bought a pig in a poke.

true but at the same time, its not really the case because the new owner haven't mentioned anything in the press relating to the property. The general public know nothing about it hence all the bits on the news relate to stories of reduced sales figures. This about the rent has come from the previous owner of the company just chatting to a friend about the situation so it could be either way in my eyes

I hope this means TVR improving on where they left off. If they made a reliable car I'd look at one, the Sagaris is stunning.
