Yesterday in the car park at Sainsbury's Tamworth I saw a shiny black W221 with the "badge" delete option. The first time I've seen it on the new S Class. In fact I think it's the first time I've seen it on any S Class.

And the second "first"? It was fitted with an after market steering wheel lock. You know, the type that clamps to the steering wheel rim and rests on the dashboard to prevent the wheel turning.

So now you know how to make one of the all time great cars look down market.

Obviously a trusting sole eh?

You see quite a few debadged 221's in London.

Our neighbour has a black de-badged 221 S320CDI, quite like the car and I have no opinion on the debadging, but the steering wheel lock?? I cannot see the sense unless he does not want a member of the family driving it?? If these folks have access to the car keys then perhaps they might not have access to the key for that ugly steering lock?  Weird though

You shouldn't carp on about spelling errors

The de-badged 221's are usually 320 CDI's or 350's. I have never seen a 500 de-badged or the 6.3 and V12's which if de-badged you would be able to tell by the exhausts.

True to form My 221 is a de-badged S320.
I'm not trying to cover up or prove anything....I know my plaice:D

A man that speaks from the sole, but lets not dab-ble with fish names. Some-one ding-a-ling the bell

I laugh when I see steering locks on relatively new cars- The vast majority simply can't be hot-wired in any case or taken without keys/serious equipment!

Clearly though, millions of pounds worth of R and D into vehicle security is inferior to a £25 crooklok!

That's what I thought when I saw it. Anyone who is able to overcome a Mercedes immobiliser is unlikely to be stopped by an aftermarket lock.
