Hi All,

I'm shortly going to need to replace the tyres on my C240 sport. It's currently on the factory 6-spoke rims, on Pirelli P6000s.

Can anyone recommend a decent tyre choice?

Cheers,

Lazarus

Anything other than the prehistoric P6000 would be an improvement! :)

What are your priorities? Comfort/wear/price/wet traction/winter traction etc?

Michelin - Great all round tyre, but top quality = expensive
Continental - Another good all round tyre, not superb in wet weather, and slightly noisy but very heard wearing
Goodyear (Eagle F1!) - Very good performance tyre, great wet and dry weather traction and braking capabilities, average wear rates and sensibly priced, if slightly noisy for some
Dunlop - Very well respected tyres, quiet and fair wear rates, average in other respects, average prices
Pirelli - You'll know what P6000s are like, newer Pirellis are supposed to be much improved (although I've not used them as of yet)
Bridgestone - Well liked by many on these forums (as a great all round tyre), although quite a 'rare' choice - I'd like to try some one day
Budget tyres - You get what you pay for usually (IMO). There are some OK tyres out there for not a lot of cash, although I'll never buy them unless I have to.

Probably missed many off this list, but these are all IMO and from what I have experienced :) There are some tyre test websites out there, well worth a look as well.

Good luck with the choice.

Will

Practically all brand new MBs come with P6000s as standard, as do BMWs and Lexus. Also Peugeot and Vauxhall. They're on everything!

You know why? The P6000 is an ancient tyre (Pirelli have already replaced it with the P6 among others) but I reckon they must bid lower than ANYONE on those tyres so stealerships continue to use them. Trouble is, they're not actually any good.

I agree with wot ur saying mate the MB Electras on my W203 came with P6000 Powergy - I was only messing around...

W202 is the last of solid C Class range Mercs quality wise as well as the....
W201 190E series...

Both my new C classes came with Michelin Pilot sports IIRC, and they were good for low noise and wear.

Heard good stories about Nankang NS2's (just about to fit them to my W210) and at £88 a pair not bad value :D

Got a c280 estate,
driven quite heavily( foot down job)

Had car 18 months ( fitted Goodyear F1 back then)

Just replaced rears, ( worn in middle) , over inflated but also on traction control etc

Excellent tyre, looks good and good braking etc.

new tyres are different pattern though, more grip but old style looks better.

hope this is of help

I think mine came with Michelin's as new too. When I got her she was on the original Michelins at the front and Continental Sport Contacts at the back. I've stuck with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 and have been very happy with all sets. If I had to point out any shortfalls then the lifespan is average at best as Will has stated but I'm more than happy with the way they perform.
