I need to get 4 new tyres for my C36 AMG to get it through the MOT. (they have all gone bald on the inside, they remainder of the tyres are fine...I've had tracking done in the last month)I've found a place that can supply part worn(I've used the co before and they are usually next to new) but they only have continental for the rears. Should I put the continentals on the rear and Michelins on the front or all continentals..

Should I get the tracking doen again at the same time as putting the new tyres on?

Thanks, in advance for any input
Alan

I'm able to get 50% discount on Continental tyres (but you wll have to arrange fitting yourself and collect them from Yiewsley, Middlesex (Continetal have an office there where my friend works... let me know...)

rees, if you have 18`s, dont get michelins, get pirrellis for the front, Michelins are good for the rear as they are fairly hard wearing!! dont know much about conti`s tho..

Yup gotta agree with that, lots of rubbing on a dropped car on 18's with Michellins!

Personally I don't think it is a good idea to mix makes of tyres. I would go for Continentals all round and get the Tracking corrected once and for all.

as long as the front 2 are the same and the back 2 are the same, no problem.

Alps?

...and as long as the fronts are the same as the rears!

Seriously folks, don't mix tyre brands or models unless it's a spare wheel :)

thx for all your input :D . I think I'll go for the conti's, I've had a look at some reviews and the tyre noise is lower with the conti's. Grip looks about the same although Conti's are slightly worse in the wet....I never go fast in the wet anyway so shouldn't be a problem.......

Just spoken to garage and apart from tyres my car passed MOT so I'm a happy chappy :bannana: :bannana: . Just gotta get those darn tyres..!!!!  :D

Shude,

ok ive been proven wrong to an extent by the owner of A&S wheels! high performance cars , yes same tyres all round, normal everyday, same in pairs!

but A&S wheels say its the customers prefernce, as all tyres behave differently.

It would be interesting to know how many people have different tyres on the front to the rear?

mine actually used to handle better with michelins on the rear and pirellis on the front! I have michelins all round at the mo, but doesnt feel as nice to drive for some reason! (thats besides the rubbing on the front now too!)

So are we saying the C36 is a performance car or an ordinary car? ;)

I'd much rather have the same tyres all around so that each tyre has the same level of grip in the same conditions. You might find that the handbook also says to use the same tyre brand/model for each wheel.

My R129 handbook says that only certain brands of tyre are approved for use on the car, full stop!

I've always found conti's to be the most hard wearing of the major brand performance tyres but grip, especially in the wet, I've found to be lacking compared to say Pirelli or Michelin.

currently have Pirelli PZeros Rossos all round.

which do you find gives a quieter ride, the Pirellis or the Continentals?

Seconded about the Conti's hard wearing ability and not so good performance in the wet. That said, I got 45,000 miles :bannana: out of my Conti's before I had to change them on my C230K. By this stage though the rears were smoother than a baby's bum - but the fronts still had 3mm left - except at the outside edges where they had suffered from cornering :D

Not had Conti's on the C36 before. From previous experience I've found them to be as quiet as Michelin Pilotsports which I have had on the C36. For noise I've found Pirellis to be the best but not as hard wearing as Michelins but prices of Michelins are usually around 25-30% more than Pirellis so it works out about the same.

I spoke to a tyre supplier recently regarding Continentals and it seems they've taken notice of the criticism of the wear and grip rate of their performance tyres. The new ones are much more grippy but less hard wearing, almost to Toyo Proxes standards.

I tend to agree with Shude ;)
