im currently using 235/40 18 ,there is a -1.24% differance in diameter if I use 225/40 18, being realistic does that matter at all?

that works out as 4mm rolling radius difference, which if you think about it is less than worn tyres vs new tyres :)

Should be no problem.

Are they for your R129? This should use 245/275
Yeah good point, while it is possible to run tyres the same width as the wheels, even narrower (see DE modified cars ;) ) you run a higher risk of kerb rash!

yeh its a r129, its currently got 265/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front, so am I correct in saying the tyres are undersized already?

Not necessarily - they were sized like that for certain AMG wheels.
