So I'm looking for wheels/tyres and I've been offered a quite nice set of rims, (and by nice I mean cheap).

The rims are "15x8J". Any ideas of what tyres will fit on this using conventional sizes?

Am I right in believing that these will fit 225x<any>x15 tyres? Can I fit larger/smaller tyres (i.e. 215 or 235?)

I ask because a set of 4 of these rims would cost me £30 - and I'm desperately trying to fit one of these tyres onto them!

What is the original size tyre for your car.?

An 8" rim will take a 225 or 235 tyre nicely.

The car originally has 265x70x15; which I plan on replacing with some part-worn tyres and using as spares.

That way I'll have 4-proper tyres and 5 spares for my little desert stroll :p

Ahh, it's not the Merc then..265 on a W202 would rub like hell.

The original tyres give a RC of 2361mm

235/75-15 gives RC of 2303mm which is a downgrade of 2.5% so not too bad. The sidewall height is 9mm less.

:D So you think that's been causing that rubbing noise all these years? :p

I've been fairly unfussy with the selection process, all I'm really stuck on is that I want the Insa Sahara tyres as my main tyres :p

The wheels are for a MK2 Shogun, which I'm planning on driving through the Sahara (hence, Insa Sahara... I know, not very smart to go by a name, but I just love things like that :D)

My shopping list gets shorter by the day, I'm really pleased!

-Wheels/tyres
-Roof rack
-Fuel canisters
-Water canisters
-White paint (going to order that later tonight)
-Spray gun for my compressor (I did something VERY stupid with my old one... suffice to say that using a spray gun to spray warm car wax doesn't work... luckily it was a cheapo "5 compressor accesories for £15" thing)
