Hello,
Having just recently purchased a W221 350 CDI. I am looking at replacing the tyres and wondered if I can fit 275 tyres on the front of the car ? To me it looks a bit tight, but they might just fit, has anyone done this ?
Thanks

I just replaced a set of 20 inch with 18 inch. The 20's were 8.5 and 9.5 at he back for the 275 tyre.
The 18s 8.5 all round.
If you put a 20x9.5 on the front it might just git, it will be very close to the suspension.

Thanks..I have 19" alloys all round, but looking to standardise on 275 tyres, so 275/40/19. I have ordered couple now and will post back here if they fit or not, I think they will but it does look close to suspension arm

Could all come down to the brand as some 275 tyres are less than and more than 275 !!

Ok, the exact ones that I have bought are: Bridgestone Turanza T005 275/40 R19 105 Y XL

Ok, just received them and the unfitted measurement from widest edges is 260. I assume this will widen once under load from the weight of the car, air pressure etc. So all in all I don't think they will fit given the distance between the current 255 tyres and the suspension arm.

I'm curious....if MB designed the car and suspension with 255 tyres why would you want to fit new tyres 20mm wider on the same rim diameter?
I was wondering the same. If the tyres received don’t fit the; hopefully they’re the right size for the rear.

Often its not the rim width but the wheel offset [ET figure] that detemines whether a tyre will fit in terms of fouling suspension/brakes or protruding out past the wheel arch. Thats why cars with wider wheels at the back often have different wheel positive offsets also-this means the face of the wheels front and back are in the same plane viewed from the side. This also implies you cant just swap back to front wheels to gain a wider rim.

I wonder what impact the heavier wider tyres will have on the steering eg additional load on the PAS.

You are right to be curious.... I bought the car from a dealer who promptly emigrated to Portugal. The car is good, but to get it through an MOT he put two cheap & nasty tyres on the back, the font had advisories and are worn close to limits. So, I bought 2x 275 then wondered if they would fit on the front, being new to a MB little did I know.
So now I have purchased two 2 x 255 for the front and will replace the rears with the 275 ones I have.
Very much appreciate all the input here though... it's been very helpful. Thanks
