Hi all

Quick question , if a seller says about a tyre '3.2mm of tread remaining' does that mean 3.2 mm until it hits the indicator stops or 3.2 mm until the tyre becomes completely smooth ?

Thanks

I would think it would be 3.2mm of total tread.

If the indicators are at 1,6mm than you have 1.6mm of tread remaining.

I would guess until its a slick.

If they have a tread guage I would guess they put it in anywhere on the tyre (centre ish) and take the reading from there?

Doubt they put it on the indicator stops, but you could always ask.

Either way 3.2mm sounds quite low? is the minumum 2mm?

Yes sorry , i was just using that number as an example.

Think 1.6 mm is the limit.

Minimum is 1.6mm over the central 3/4 of the tyre. Tyres are always measured to the carcass, so a tyre with 3.2mm has 1.6mm of useable tread. A new tyre usually has between 7-9mm.

Unless you have a minibus, where the minimum tread depth is 1mm for some mad reason??
