Tyres for CLK 209 280 Avant-garde Cabrio

Hello all

Currently my CLK 209 avant-garde cabrio (std suspension all in good order) has Pirelli Powergy 17" tyres, I was going to refurb the wheels so may as well replace the worn tyres at the same time. Other cars we own have Continental Eco contact, Falken Sincera and my SL (now gone had Falken Zeix) so not a tyre snob by any means.

I don't find the steering great on the CLK, a little numb, and doesn't self centre brilliantly. So which tyres? I favour comfort/refinement and steering accuracy. Someone recommended Pirelli pzeros but don't know if its a case of emperors new clothes. (appreciate the steering thing may just be a characteristic)

So

a) Stick with powergy?
b) Try something else?

If you don’t want the Pirelli P0, the Pirelli P7 may be a better option depending on how you use the car. Unless you really like to push on I think the P7 may be better - slightly more comfortable, lasts a bit longer, and supposedly better economy. I have the P7 on my s211 e class and they have been great - just quite expensive if you get a puncture.

I have the P7 Cinturato 245/45 R18 with Audi fitment, but I suppose it depends on the weather of when your going to drive. We rarely have ice on our roads and if we did I have access to another car.

Numb steering, I changed to 16 inch years ago, improved steering. Tyres much cheaper and last longer.
Little difference in ride.

Yes I'm generally a fan of smaller wheels, I took my SL from 17s to 16s, it made a difference.

In this instance I'd really like to keep it std. (Front 225/45/17 & Rear 245/40/17)

Front tyres 205 55 16, a very popular size hence quite cheap.
