Hi guys , just bought 19" rims for my C220 W204 , Ive got a label on my car with recommended sizes up to 18" , so Mercedes recommends I can fit 255/35/18 , I used calculator to check what size I can fit those 19"s without making any issue for the speed meter , and it shows me Im ok with 255/30/19. So I went to fit the tyres today , and the bloke there told me these tyres width is too much for the front tyres,he said he checked in their system tyres size for my car and I won't be able to drive the car at all . I showed him the lable and that this tyre size is recommended by Mercedes for my car , and he said that he also spoke to some one who works for Mercedes and he suggests 225/35 for front , and I can keep the 255/30 for rear tyres . So any ideas if thats gonna be ok ,because my car isn't AMG , and believe all 4 tyres have to be same size ,any one done that on his car .Cheers

The issue with the tyre width is that a wide tyre can foul the wheel arch and/or shock etc, especially when the car is loaded.

The front is more susceptible because the wheel turns inside the arch.

A staggered setup i.e. where the rear tyres are wider than the front is a common setup on Mercs with the 'Sport' trim (not just AMG). It also makes sense on a RWD car. The rear rim is then wider than the front rim.

The two issues that you will have are (a) finding the maximum tyre width that does not foul the wheel arch under any circumstances including acceleration and cornering under full load, and (b) declaring to your insurer fitting wheels of a size that is not recommended by the car manufacturer.

That said, I don't know what are the actual tyre size values that will work for your car.

Your fitter is correct. 255x30x19 tyres will not fit the front of your C class. Even C63's only fit 235's on the front and they have extended wheel arches.

The trouble is, you haven't researched enough before going ahead and buying both your wheels and tyres.
.

I have done the calculation from your figures of what you currently have and what you propose (255x30x19 all round) and you would find the inner rims sit 16.1mm closer to the suspension strut and the outer rim 22.1 mm closer to the wheel arch. Both inner and outer rim will foul the caliper and bodywork.

Use the website above to calculate what will fit, but you have unfortunately made an error buying 255 wide tyres for the front of the car.
Sorry to bring bad news.

I havent bought them, just reserved (no upfront payment) . Im just confused why Mercedes put that label on my car I can fit 255 tyres .So can I then use my fitter advice and put 225/35 front and 255/30 rear tyres although my car meant to be same size tyres all around . Cheers

If you are referring to the tyre air pressures sticker on the inside of the fuel filler flap, then ignore it because this isn't the place to look. Your owners manual will tell you which tyre sizes are suitable for your car.

You also need to take account of the "offset" referred to as the ET number of your 19" wheels PLUS what width of rim you have bought.

The superb website has been cited to allow you to input your data.

I dont have the owners manual , I thought if they give you info what pressure you should have for particular tyre sizes , you are supposed to be able to fit them . Anyway , back to the question, could you tell me if you know if Im gonna be ok to fit 225/45 front and 255/35 rear on non AMG please

The offset is 40 / 8.5J , the stock 16"s are with 43 / 7J,so it should be ok ,I did check that with calculator before I order the rims, 8.5J allows you to fit tyre up to 255 width

I wouldn’t rely on the misinformation on that website.

So true.

However, the www can also be a "godsend" eg MBClub. ;)
