UK proposals: Cycle Streets With 15mph Limit And No Overtaking

These threads amaze me.
You lot see a couple of cyclists acting like idiots yet blame all. Every single day we all whitness drivers texting, failing to look, not indicating and speeding in their 1 Tonne + vehicles yet the cyclists are always the bad guys.

Today's report from cycling to work:
Cement lorry didn't bother indicating, swerved across into cycle lane and turned left missing me by inches.

Today's report from cycling home from work:

To avoid quening, black Mk4 Golf drives in cyclelane/ mounts pavement knocking edge of my handlebar nearly taking me down.

All my fault of course because I don't pay cycle road tax

Why is this a consideration? As I pointed-out in previous post, someone who owns two cars is still paying the VED twice, so why a special concession for car owners whose second vehicle is a bike?

Sorry - never read the whole thread.

Don't look forward to paying seven lots of VED or the bike equivalent for my 7 or so bikes...or having to get a 'SORN' for my wife's bike that has been ridden once in 5 years...or knowing what to do if on a whim she decides she wants to ride it tomorrow...or paying for the several time a year that the kids decide they want to use their bikes.

Surely there must be a bike of sorts in every household? We are already taxed to the eyeballs in all sorts of formats. If the powers that be thought that they could get away with slapping a tax on the use of a bike and be able to properly police this, then I'm sure they wouldn't miss a trick. Old geezer cutting through country lanes in the dead of night having not paid the requisite tax now becomes the most wanted - get the helicopter with thermal imaging equipment out!

Since they are trying to encourage rather than discourage cycling, then it just becomes another obstacle to put folks right off.

In my eyes, its not necessarily the cyclists who are bad, nor lorry drivers, nor bus drivers.
I could add up as many gripes I have with the cyclists, as I have with car drivers, but what would be the point in this?

Its the particular individuals who will be acting like kn0bends, regardless which type of vehicle they are commanding - that's the problem, and not type of vehicle.

Interesting thing is to do with fitness when cycling. Does it make you fitter? Without shadow of a doubt it does!

However, it won't necessarily make you healthier.

When we exercise, we can intake up to 10 times more air than in the normal day to day routine activities. That makes us more prone to feel adverse effects of air pollution.
The worst type of pollutant is called the Particulate Matter, which comes in rather small sizes (about 10 microns or less).

The most harmful PM is the one which is smaller than 2.5 microns, and which is classified as PM 2.5.

These small particles paralyse cilia, which are tiny little hair responsible for clearing our airway system. Within the alveoli, are the another cells called macrophages, which are responsible for fighting infections, deep in our lungs.
PM 2.5 penetrates as deep as there and gradually destroys them.

And did I mention that the main ( but not the only) source of PM are combustible engines?

So in summary, cycling will keep us fitter, but it will only keep us healthier when cycling away from the main roads ;)

Your view that other forms of transport should automatically be granted preference because of some draconian law just doesn’t work in todays world.

I’m surprised you have even found the internet with your two tin cans and a piece of string.

It's not my view, it's the Law. Car drivers are a long way down the priority list for use of roads and it is deemed a luxury, hence is both licensed and taxed.

Next time you meet a herd of cows on the road try telling them you have right of way. 100 half ton cows do a lot of damage to a car if the driver is stupid enough to think they are above the law...

You really ought to remove your head from your ar$e, that way we wouldn't have these ridiculous, bigoted threads. If you don't like the Law, petition your MP.
