Hi everyone,

I'm in the market for a relatively older and hence cheaper diesel to get me to and from work. I live and commute in London (zone 4 and outer so I will rarely make trips into zone 1).

For some years now I've seen quite a few pre 2010 diesel Mercs that are identified as ULEZ compliant when checking the registration on the TFL website. I've scoured the forums and accepted that TFL are incompetent in many regards including their database in how their systems identify vehicles as compliant or not.

I've stumbled across a few diesel Mercedes that vary from 2006 to 2010 as being ULEZ compliant when checking the TFL website.

My question is would these particular cars be subject to any charges or penalties if driven within the ULEZ zone even when the TFL site says they are compliant?

TFL and other authorities have this wrong regularly. Both ways, i.e. sometimes Euro 6 cars show as chargeable and they have to be updated manually and sometimes chargeable cars show as free.
Euro 6 diesels are compliant so for the ML thats the W166.
Earlier petrol models are compliant.

W164 models are generally not compliant apart from the petrol models.

I do know lots of people who have supposedly compliant cars that shouldnt be... but they could correct their systems. Will they? Probably not....

I agree in that there's an inherent risk the database will be corrected at some point (when and how likely?) and many incorrectly compliant cars will then be subject to the charge. But for now, they won't be charged so long as the site says its compliant, at least that's my interpretation.
