Now what isn't quite so easy to explain is conducting a eulogy in Spanish for one of my employees, Armando the Tech Mex's mother. God be gracious unto her at her moments of suffering.
His dear mother is on her deathbed about to die at 75 years old of cancer, I doubt she will last the night
Now confined to bed under heavy sedation my wife delivered flowers to her bedside today.
I am quite comfortable making speeches and business presentations in Spanish in my adopted Venezuelan lingo, but a eulogy is something quite new to me in a church. After many years of living in Latin America I understand the cultural divide perhaps, but striking the right mood and words applicable to the occasion will take me some hours to write and perform my presentation for all the family members who will be arriving for the funeral and expecting something from El Hefe Ingles Y su Esposa La Gringa
Above all I want the mourners to come away with a real sense of mutual communion & that we Brits are able to cross that invisible cultural divide and be just like them as their mother moves on into that human mystery of death & beyond .
This is a burden I gladly take on as my own parents have passed away more at 10 years ago now, and their mortal remains rest in St Stevens Church in Moreton Valence Gloucestershire . The experience is really the same celebrating full and fruitful lives but crossing that cultural divide!!!
There's the challenge in Spanish.
