As some of you know, I am currently selling my E55 and are looking at two lease cars (we currently own our company cars). Anyway, contacted local dealer and were put in touch with Daimler Fleet Management (DFM).

Explained what I wanted etc and received some really good service. Got a great price for an ML320Cdi Sport + an A170 Avantgarde SE with options and were ready to sign the "dotted line" more or less three days later.

The guy from DFM requested to meet. During this meeting we agreed to delete a few option and add something else. No problems I was told. "Rates will be with you tomorrow". The next day came and went. No quotes.

After a phone call, rates were received via email late in the evening. But a closer look revealed that the rates were considerable higher (ML £280/month more!!) that what I had asked for, nor had it my requested options etc.

When called and said so, I was told that the rates were only for "cars in stock" (despite me saying I wanted factory order only!) and that the rates for normal lease were different. Strange I thought.....

Once I explained how I felt being treated as a 2nc class cattle, the sales person (fleet) asked me if I would still consider having an ML if he could arrange one with the right spec, right price, factory order etc. My answer was yes. He promised to come back next day.

This never happened.

Called up and told them straight that I do not feel that MB wants my business (o'boy do they need it!) and that so far I have no intention of paying fantasy rates that they think they can get away with.

I then moved on to say that they have quoted me a rate, valid for 28 days and they should stick with it.

If I quoted my customer £400 a job and then when customer wanted to book the transport I would ask for £600, I wouldn't have any customers!!

The ball is now in their hands.

My memory comes back to the good old days when MB were extra snotty (more than now) and were looking at their clients like cattle.

Regarding the A class, they have already lost out to a new Volvo S40, with all the options we wanted + service agreement at a great price (cheaper than A class and as quoted!) and just brilliant service (and yes, Volvo also need business!).

Volvo have quoted me a brilliant price for a new XC60 with all the bells and whistles for a cheaper rate than an ML. But I really fancy sticking with an ML if price is right.

Any ideas?????

Sorry to hear you are being messed around. You would think in this economic climate they would be more professional.

Good luck with the new cars and the sale of the E55.

Funny, I'm going through something similar too, they certainly do seem to be a law upon themselves. Sometimes it feels like we're supposed to feel priviledged to be allowed to be a customer of theirs. If I ran my business like that I'd have gone bust a long time ago...

Well, DFM decided to re-quote me today and again, they have lost the plot.

They are unable to give me a rate now that are valid for say a September delivery (factory order) that are even remotely close to the offers they currently have. The best part "you must place an order by Thursday"....

But they can give a "great" price for a car that does not have half of the options I want, as long as I take delivery by end March.

They can also not say if there will be any better rates in September.... or even keep the rates longer than 28 days.....

How can any car company in todays climate think in these lines???

No thanks.

I think it's time to move on from MB. Need to consider my options and what I can get for the money. Nevermind the fact being treated like a king at some other car makes I have visited duing the weekend, incl Audi, Bmw, Skoda, Volvo, VW, Lexus etc etc etc.

The way they have treated you is downright disgusting. Regardless of credit crunch your custom should be treated with respect and honesty.

I really don't blame you for walking, if you still want an ML then phone different dealers and see what kind of reaction you get, don't bother with the DFM and go for the dealerships I'm sure you will get much much better treatment.

Good Luck.

Mark

Sorry to hear that, that's why my new cars are a Volvo C30 and an XC70, both excellent and you feel like a vlued customer, as much as I like Mercedes I will never buy a product from someone snottier than I am! If you buy Volvo, you'll not be disappointed

I use LloydsTSB autolease, I've always had a full quote within 20 minutes of emailling. Plus instead of asking what options I like they generally send a list over of every option available along with cost so you can pick and choose what you like based on value for money.

However, my advice with leasing/contract hire is the only sensible rates exist for vehicles they want to get rid of / are already built / due a new model.

I only lease if I'm reasonably flexibe, i.e I'm not exactly specific about what I want and I'll take the right deal if the price is right.

If you're fully speccing a car you're probably better of with a PCP deal as the lease costs on options are quite often 100% depreciation, espectially items like COMAND.

Take a look at the MB site for current offers....if you can stay away from the options list there's an ML280CDI on there at £399 a month personal, so business may be even more competitive....The E class estates look good to me though, mainly becasue they throw in the major options as part of the deal...Leather...COMAND.

Yes, as an old Volvo driver for over 10 years, my business have always been valued at the local Lookers Garage. Saying that, MB just lost out on wife's A class to an S40 R-Design for a great great price.

You are being very unfair. The special offers are clearly set out on the website and quite clearly relate to existing stock for delivery by a given date that they quite clearly specify. If you want one of those deals, you accept the T's and C's and you can have one.

If you want to factory order, you won't get one of those special offers. Nothing odd about that. Virtually all manufacturers have similar systems.

I know what you would really like. You would like to factory order exactly to your chosen spec, while only paying the offer price for the car. Me too. But that is not what they are offering. If you want the offer price it is available but only on cars that are in stock and delivered by a specified date.

How can it I be unfair when I want to order a car, at a set rate from factory?!

The problem is that they can't even give me a 100% set lease rate on a factory order, this is the problem. Not the fact that the rates are different. A realize that a car (parked up someplace for 3-6 months already) will attract a much better deal. Fine. As you say, T&C's are all on the webpage.

Most manufacturers today will bend over backwards for customers, not so with MB and I feel badly treated and are not pleased with the service so far (except from local dealer which has always been very helpful to me).

The first car they lost out to is: 1) A factory order. 2) Some options 3) Takes approx 8 week to deliver 4) They can keep the rate as quoted and car ordered within the validity of the quote (28 days).

Why can't MB do this???

MB is on deep water already and I think with this kind of attitude it will certainly not help them....

As others have mentioned, it doesn't matter how good MB cars are, or how much I like them....
