Hi all
I have a 2013 LWB sprinter which I have converted to a motor caravan , at the moment the pay load is down as 3500kg on the log book but the VIN plate has max front axle load at 1650 kg and rear axle max weight at 2250 kgs which works out to 3900 kgs ( not the 3500kg as stated on the VIN plate )
am I right in assuming that if I had a new VIN plate made up with the higher max gross vehicle weight on it and showing the axle weights as they stand on it and send request, photos etc off to the DVLA they would update the log book
I hope that makes sense
regards
Brian

Is it possible that those are the individual permissible axle weights but the combined load must not exceed 3500kg? That the 3500kg load must be arranged fore-and-aft so that no axle bears more than its stated limit?

Asking DVLA to change docs these days often as not sees them ask for proof of modifications done to a standard - all the way to having to submit to an IVA test (where, depending on what has been changed, may result in the original reg # being pulled and a Q Plate issued).

I'd research IVA (lots on the 'net from DVLA) before going much further.

thanks for the replies
I was under the impression that the suspension, brakes etc on the 3500kg and the 4000kg sprinter were exactly the same and the reason for the down grading was so they could be driven on a normal ( as in newer type )
driving license ??
thanks for pointing out about the IVA I hadn't thought of that

A LWB Sprinter "non tacho" has a gross vehicle weight of 3500 Kg including fuel and driver. The pay load "what it can carry" is a ton, the unladen kerb side weight should be around 2500 Kg

When did you pass your driving test, if after 1997 (ish) You will not be allowed to drive 3.9tonnes without a class C HGV license

Read the whole thread Geoff, already stated oops :( :(

passed my test 1982 ...... hmmmm so there are some benefits to getting old

Had a strange conversation with a guy from DVLA the other day ,he tried to convince me that the 3500 kg gross weight is in affect the kerb weight and so long as the unladen weight is less than 3500kg I could put what ever I wanted in it as the tax is based unladen weight and therefore the van would be road legal .no matter how hard I tried he would not be moved , anyhow I have spoken to Mercedes GB and they are getting my local MB garage to contact me to arrange a meeting about option , I will post again if anyone is interested in this subject
