Am I right that I need to go to a stealer and hand over £100? Any other way?

No, all you need do is buy the maps DVD and upload the maps from the DVD to the internal hard disk drive.

Be warned though, it can take a couple of hours to complete, so either do this on the drive with the battery connected to a trickle charger, or just wait till you have a 2-hour journey and let it load then.

Said that, the process can be stopped half way through and it will then pick-up and continue from where you left it.

But note that the newer maps require the latest firmware that was made available for NTG2.5 in 2010-2011 (or there about), so if the firmware on your NTG2.5 pre-dates that then you will need to have it updated before you can load the latest DVD maps. And I think that the firmware update can only be done with STAR - if so it's a dealer job (or an independent specialist e.g. comandonline.co.uk). But once you have the latest firmware, future map updates are easy.

You can check the firmware version on your unit form the 'secret menu' on NTG2.5.

....The latest is 09 29 (29th week of 2009) this will give you ECO route.... the process to load the firmware involves going online via Xentry. the units firmware is checked against the database in Germany and then the user of the Xentry system is told which disk to load to get the latest....
