2002 CL500
Hi. I have a non-bose CL500. Firstly , I cannot find the amplifier in the boot, next to the cd changer. Nothing there, but the sub does play. I was wondering if I could just plug-in a bose amp into the D2B fibre optic system and replace the stock speakers with bose speakers. Would it be worth doing ?

If not , I want to upgrade the speakers anyways. How would I go about it ? I seen on another thread to add an additional amp with the sub input as the amp input. Obviously it would better the base, but what about the door speakers ? The door speakers would run off the head unit. All the posts I could find in this forum says that there must be an Amp, regardless if it bose or not.

Any advise would be appreciated.

do you have the bose logo on rear speaker covers?
if yes your car have bose audio.

d2b I recall goes from changer to audiodeck, i don't think it's connected to your amp, but i might be wrong?
on my w202 i only have this stiff orange wire for d2b and powerloom between changer and audiodeck.

i wouldn't put a bose audio in my car if it didn't come originally from factory.
bose isn't that good and audio parts are still expensive from stealership.
you get better and cheaper audio from radioshack

Thanks for the quick reply.
No Bose logos on any speakers and given the sound quality, it does not sound like Bose.
Regardless of that, I want to replace all the speakers and sub anyways with more up to date kit, but I am struggling to figure out how I would connect aftermarket amp to the stock head unit ? Would I also have to run new cables from the door speakers to the new amp?

I recently upgraded mine to add in a subwoofer on the parcel shelf. It works well.

I used the rear speaker channels to tap into and then used high level inputs on the amp, whilst maintaining signals to the rear speakers.

I had to hunt down a wiring diagram to find out which wires were which - but this was made a lot easier by examining the bundles of wires which ran from my AGW (stock amp basically).

I noticed colour wires and brown with corresponding tracer - jotted these down and found a PDF containing which wires were which.

I don't have any info on the CL500 but I would imagine the stock amp, if there is one, is in the boot (on the NS behind the boot lining). Failing that, take a door panel off and look what colour wires go to the speakers, and have a hunt round for those.

Failing that, start again and run new cables yourself.

I would have a good hunt around on Google using various search terms - I found a lot of good stuff on US websites.

Bose can be added but you will need a new Bose amp, speakers and coding. Its also expensive.

You can do a lot to the car without going to the expense of Bose (Bose is old hat now in MB's anyway).

We have recently done a couple of amazing sounding upgrades to SL's and CLK's in particular by just replacing the speakers and performing some 'tweaks'. Suprisingly cheap too ;)
