I have Merc C200 Dec 2011 registered saloon car. I want to upgrade my
Comand online to latest firmware.

I am able to connect my iphone 5s with Bluetooth to play music and
making calls but I am not able to browse data in Comand online which I believe has been solved in later versions..

My merc shows HU version as 11.23.00 which I believe is NTG4.5.

Could you advise if I can upgrade it to 4.7 or latest versions?

Thanks,
JM

OK, so you have Comandonline, which means facelift car with NTG4.5, so you need to find out why your Comand is still 2011 instead of having the updates to Dec 2014 installed during servicing.

Hopefully Richard or Alfie from Comandonline.co.uk will give details - they are the acknowledged masters of Comand knowledge and luckily are also on this forum (sponsors IIRC!).

I would like to know this as well. Can a ntg4.5 unit be swapped out for a NTG4.7 unit??

From what I remember there are three versions of NTG4.5 on a C Class. V1 on early cars with a software changed can be bumped up to V2 but V3 on the latest unit was achieved with physical changes to the head unit i.e. a new head unit.

Thanks for this. But do you know if swapping a gen 1 version for a gen 3 version is possible??

Is it a straight swap out of the units or are new looms etc required?

I don't know about a swap but assuming that it is you should research further as to any improvements because I imagine that the cost would by far outweigh the benefits. COMAND's online experience with early versions is disappointing in my experience. Cast your mind back to dial up internet 15 years ago and you'll get the idea.

How do you know what Version you have? My SLK was new end Nov 2014

Having also used command online I can vouch it's a complete waste of time using the data side of things. It's like when WAP phones came out.

Ok fair enough. Are there any other benefits of 4.7. Apart from the colour of the screen??
Looking like a swap wouldn't be worth it then.

4.7 (the one that supports Bluetooth PAN, i.e iPhone) is different hardware to the 4.5. I don't know exactly what, but i'd suspect the bluetooth chipset is different at least.

So, upgrading your 4.5 to the latest firmware won't make iPhone work. Not, you can't upgrade firmware yourself, has to be done with online Xentry which means Mercedes dealer or very specialist independent like Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk

It is possible to replace a Comand 4.5 unit with a Comand 4.7 unit and code everything by hand to make it work, but pretty sure you can't SCN code it (to get config perfect) because the SCN coding will say that control unit isn't valid for that car. As the map pin code algorithm is same for NTG4.5 and NTG4.7 it will still be possible for Mercedes to generate the pin codes for new maps.

If your car should have NTG4.5 and you have an Audio-20, and you follow the proper procedures to do a retrofit but try using a 4.7 unit it won't work as the start-up procedure will know its not meant to have 4.7. This means that the start-up will not update Mercedes database and you will not be able to generate a map pin for the map. This means buying an (expensive) dodgy map pin from some hacker on the internet each time you need to update the maps. So not recommended at all.

Thank you for the information Richard, that is all very interesting.

I am new to MB and have just bought a C220 facelift my11 plate with NTG4.5 installed. Being an Apple fan boy means I won't change phone, but also don't like having functions not working in my car.

I see you work for command, how much would the swap out cost and would you take the NTg4.5 as part exchange?

Also can you do rear view camera retrofit and also do you know if it is possible to to a factory TV retrofit??

Sorry one more question. I have an iPhone 6 is it possible to get and MB Media Interfsce cable that will work with my age car or will I have to use a 30 pin to lightning converter??

Sorry for all the questions!

Hi, the update from ntg 4.5 v1 to v2, is this just online based when your car is serviced?

how would you go about getting ntg 4.5 v2?

thanks.

You're the customer, the one paying, nothing is based on a routine service, that's just convenient for the dealer.

I guess my question is:

When my comand system gets an update via online system at the time of service and my current version is ntg 4.5 v1, does the v2 upgrade come just from the online update?

or is it done another way?

The bit about iphone only working with 4.7 has me confused. I've retrofitted NTG 4 to my A207 and my iphone 6plus works perfect with bluetooth phone and bluetooth music streaming, it even shows the track detail. Is there something i've missed :dk:

i think they mean the iphone media interface functionality. so far you have to use the iphone 4 media interface cable and add a 30 pin official adaptor for it to work.

NTG 4.7 support iphone for internet via Comand Online whereas NTG 4.5 does not.
