Mercedes CLK240 V6 C209
Hello All,

This is my 1st post so I will try to keep it sweet and simple.
I just bought a 2002 Mercedes CLK240 V6 209, LHD over in Spain, My 1st Mercedes!!
At good price as he was a family friend, Low KMs (145k) and the last owner didn't really push the car hard, so engine is in good shape or at least it sounds Ok, I will update in another post in the future if I run into problems

First of all, so I start with good footing with you guys, is it: W209 or 209? Spanish reg doesn't say W209, just 209!

I am in the middle of replacing the head unit and both sets of door speakers, but I would need some advise in case I go wrong somewhere or I am missing something. (I have attached some pictures)
It has not been face-lifted, so its the one piece centre unit console. I would need to know if my next project is going to make me have to do it?

I have gone to my local shop and bought a set of cable/leads, these cables I think include the BT receiver, Can-Bus connector, Fakra male cable? and few other bits and bobs.
I would like the controls on the steering wheel to still be functional, and reading a bit, nowadays universal sets are made which allow most setups to be functional ?
I have also gone and purchased 2 sets of speakers, I tried to get them as powerful as I could 🤗 maybe not the best choice but they where on sale at a decent price, so it does not put me back a lot.
I wonder now if I will need an amp to power them, I hope not! Please advise if I messed up!
I also need advise, I have read I might need brackets for the speakers on the doors? Can the original ones be used again or each manufacturer has their own bracket size?
Speakers seem to be the cheapest part to replace if you compare them to cables and the head unit.

For the head unit I had eyed OEM replicas from Eridin, PbA and chinaese makes, but I have recently decided to look into Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, etc....
I wanted to be able to connect my android phone (Handsfree call driving/music), Play CDs, DVDs for kids and be able to have navigation when going on trips with the family.
I have come across: Pioneer AVH-Z5200DAB, which has Android Car/Apple CarPlay, CD-Player (Something I wanted for my older CDs), Blue Tooth and I think I can run a cable from the back of the head unit with a USB extension cable, to connect the phone or USB drives.
If someone knows of a head unit that could cover everything I am after, please advise.

Most articles I have found selling the head units also sell the fitting kits, but having already purchased the previous kit (Got ahead of myself!), I would need to know if it will work with the head unit.
I have attached all the pictures, so you can see what cables I have and hopefully advise me correctly, we can sort this project out and I can get it underway.
So basically as you see, I am in the middle of the project, getting all the parts together to get the car ready!

Thank you all for your time

Strictly speaking it is a C209. The prefix letter indicates the body style, 'C' for coupe, 'W' for saloon, 'S' for estate, to name just a few.

If someone knows of a head unit that could cover everything I am after, please advise.
The Erisin will do all that and more and not look rubbish.
DAB+, CD, FM, Bluetooth streaming and phone, Reversing cam, Waze/Google maps/TomTom nav etc
Comes with a wiring adapter which is plug and play so powers on in under 1 sec when key is inserted, detects reverse and headlight on from CANBUS, steering wheel controls work (to a point).
There are many variants so look for 8 core CPU with 4Gb ram as a minimum. These are the £200+ ones.

You might find you are dissapointed with those speaker mounts too as they are not great.
I was so made some up out of some MDF offcuts.

Here is how I fitted the tweeter in the front

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your message, much appreciated
I think will have to use the plastic brackets, until I make my DIY ones , thanks for the heads up.
Is your system a ERISIN or XTRONS? I have seen that design on both makes

Is there any massive difference between the makes, apart from RAM and the price?

Not really. They are what are known as MTCD/E PX5 Android units from 6 or so Chinese factories. If you have a choice of one with a DSP then choose that if all other specs are equal.

Hello All,
So I said I would keep you informed and show you the end product:

Big thanks to @AltonAnt

At the end the head unit I chose to go for was a ERISIN 64gb ROM, 4GB Ram, Android 10, Apple/Android CarPlay, Nav GPS, DSP, WiFi, etc.....
Basically it covered all my needs and was like half the price of a Alpine/Kenwood/etc.. So far sound is good, need to set DSP correctly bass is a little low
Only speaker I have not touched yet, is the back shelf bass speaker, which I will probably get a Rockford Fosgate or JBL although not in a great rush yet, will prob use a SUB, but want to see if I can get more out of DSP
The speaker mounts I bought only worked for the front speaker on the door, the rear speaker on the front door is slightly smaller, I wasn't able to find any aftermarket mounts, so I basically just cut out the original Mercedes speaker that crumbled upon touching them. I sanded the edges where it was held onto the plastic, drilled the connection area and fed the new speaker cables through the hole to avoid pinching the cable with the mount. Added the after speaker by drilling new holes into the mount. The tweeters, where easy, just took out the original ones, inserted the aftermarket, I didnt add any glue as it fitted nicely, used the cable with the crossover from the set and then connected it to the car cables, using plastic sleeves and melting them together.
The cable set for CAMBUS, Steering, etc... I got, was utter and completely useless, was for a newer model car.... was too quick to buy and did not check properly
The ERISIN set is plug and play, so not problems there.
Ended painting the wheels, to get a fresh modern look and got bit carried away and ended painting the break callipers too

I would have facelifted the controls also while I was at it. The preface lift dash is appalling.

I have done 3 of them:

Sorry for the late reply
I didn't know you where on this forums, I followed your videos on YT to get it done. Thanks for info.
I didn't find the inner cage somewhere easy and the newer controls, people where asking ridiculous prices, so I chose not to get them and just do a straight swap out, I still needed to take apart the dashboard and your videos where great help there.
I think the facia still looks ok, a bit old fashioned but the car does have some age, so keeps it original.
