I recently bought 3 used HP630 laptops.

From what I can see, the published HP spec for this model is 4gb RAM but one of them has 2gb RAM.

I'm ok with upgrading RAM in desktops, but don't know if it's as simple for laptops or whether they are "sealed for life" so to speak.

Can I upgrade? - advice please.

Ta, the spec says two slots, so I'm guessing currently 2 x 1gb.

Laptops generally only have 2 slots for memory - SODIMM - and the stick lays canted over at an angle.

Find which panel to remove as DSM says above, take that out and you'll see the memory underneath. At either side there will be metal spring retainers that hold the RAM in place.

Press these outwards, preferably simultaneously (it helps to have long fingernails) and the RAM will be released from the socket. Pull it gently upwards then out of the socket. Repeat the process for the second stick.

Fitting the new memory is the reverse process, push the memory into the socket, press down and lock into place. Easy once you've done it the first time.. :)

Cheers,

Gaz

Check out the crucial site. Should be able to establish exactly what you can do.

It sounds the same as a desktop - I've got a Crucial account so I'll connect it to them, if I can prise said laptop away from son.

Thanks to all.
