upgrading to electric seats

I have a W210 1998 with manual seats. Two electric ones with switches on the seats are on the way. Are they plug and sit or will I need to hack in some power ?

Your car may be wired to take them but you'll have to take off the driver's door card to check. My car is a W202 and I added electric seats while my old seats were manual and I had to go get the looms.
 
Thanks for the info. I'll wire in my own loom instead - door trims look difficult to remove.

I think you may need the looms to enable one touch opening and closing. Along with the relay if not already fitted. Door trims are the easy thing to remove.

I understand what your saying but far better to install the complete kit and have the stisfaction of a job well done rather than eventually landing up in the position of, "If only"

In some cases its best to make your own loom and in others its best to go with the factory way of doing things, this is one of those cases.

Unless you have the wiring diagram's and exact measurements it wont line up and it probably wont function either, get a factory harness and use its alignment keys they are colour coded and you just line them up with the existing wiring.

It shouldn't be too complicated to install its just seats.
 
I appreciate the input but those looms sound very expensive - the mod kit for my front fogs was £18 a side and that was just a bit of wire to replace the original...I can figure out how the seats work and if need be I'll easily be able to make my own micro-controller to work them - and this way I can program it for memory too ie slide back when I open the door then return to my setting.
From what you're all saying I will need a power feed and a few wires to run the motors via relays. I guess that the seat connector is more than 2 pins ?
 
There are 4 motors and 2 heating pads on most electric seats. So yes more than 2 wires.

Plus two way switching on all of the seat motors and more if memories are used , the hardest thing when making you own is getting hold of the correct plugs.


Its worth going to a breaker

Doh! I think I have made a b*** up. My seats have not arrived yet but looking at my 1998 handbook it seems that the seats with switches fitted to the seats are not really 'electric' , I mean all they do is set body contour - not slide back and forwards ? Is this right ?

About Ipods... just fitted the Harmnon-Cardon ipod rig - brilliant. Now I have an iDrive type blue knob (ooh matron) that works the ipod and an LCD display to see whats happening.:bannana:
