2005 CLS 500 V8
Driving home I get "Vehicle raising symbol - visit workshop"

I notice that both o/s and n/s front is completely lowered while the rear is lifted on comfort level.

Park up try to raise and now the o/s front and rear are raised high while the other side is raised to sport I mode. No malfunction is showing on computer?

Any help please as I am confused and not sure what its going to cost?

Need to get a decent indy took look at it, hopefully just a airline leak or valve.. you've not had too much luck with this car, hope it's nothing to costly.

need to get it to an Indi with STAR, also on a ramp to locate the issue, most probably a leak somewhere or the pump on its way out. Worst case the strut may be leaking so a replacement one of those.

but before spending, go visit and indi

I had to bring to MB dealer, needed courtesy car, Ill get diagnostics done with them and if its not too bad ill bring to an indy, but then I am covered with warranty if its MB.

The joys of saving for a house deposit and owning a lux car lol sadly the CLS although beautiful and a pleasure to drive is also like a 360 Modena, When it works it works, when it doesnt, you pay!

how much for a airline leak and or valve fix guys?

If the struts don't leak or there is no leak detected in the airlines, don't overlook the valve block assembly as they can go porous over time.

You are at the mercy of an MB dealer now regarding price :(

I used to hear a hissing noise shortly after car was locked, is this the struts leaking or?

If you're woried about the cost to fix this, just be thankful it's not a Ferrari 360, check the price of the last service on this one:

Ferrari 360 F1 Modena 2000 | eBay

£3500 for essentially a major service - mental.

fingers crossed its a easy repair :/

Thinking logically, how can there be a leak in the strut if one side is completely raised and the other in sport I or semi normal? It was the opposite where the front o/s and n/s were completely in Sport II (Lowered) but now the N/S has corrected to Sport I and O/S is raised.

Surely a leak would reduce height? but I am not a mechanic

chris, your better of waiting to see what is found mate, all guess work on a forum without having the car here to see on a ramp and without star!

If you want to do a bit more research on airmatic get yourself over to some of the model specific US forums as there are a lot more of these cars in the US. Mercedes-Benz Forum Be prepared to "Suck it Up" with what you find as they say across there.

Just thought someone might be knowledgeable to the issue, from a joe bloggs viewpoint, a leak indicates a loss and the current height of one side suggests the opposite.

I am expecting no less than £1k bill, they rarely are and is what I have come to expect from MB. Maserati ownership is closing in as the running costs can't be much worst at least I'll have a nice sound, albeit similarly out of pocket.

My main gripe is not with money but as the value service conducted last month should have included suspension inspections, yet no suspension components were inspected, highlighted on checklist. This is worrying given that the same checklist states engine oil level was not checked yet on the receipt I was charged for engine oil.

hey chris,

could still be a leak!

£1K bills is why the indi`s are around, MB will replace rather than fix as a general rule.

Yes the issue is this though, they wont provide courtesy cars, warranty likely to be weaker to non-existent given it will be a 'fix'. I understand the pit falls of dealerships but they exist to fill the voids not given by indies sadly.

Hi Chris

Could you not just get them to give it a diagnosis and take it else where to be fixed?

Had issues with mine, MB Teesside diagnosed, said I needed rear air bellows and air springs replaced, combined the parts costs and labour involved it came to a mere £3472.80!
Needless to say, I took it to an indy who diagnosed it with the N/S/F leg leaking. Bought 2 Arnott ones from Germany and had them fitted, total cost £1400 ish The rear leak was so minor, it still cannot be picked up using various methods, but doesn't affect the car at all, apart from the odd dash message.
All I am trying to say, is just because they are the main dealer doesn't mean they know what they are doing!

They cant diagnose until Monday.

Your's is the most expensive ive seen to date, just browsing, what was wrong, must have been very big?

Most indes I've dealt with do provide courtesy cars although they won't be Mercs necessarily but who cares.

If you find a decent inde - they will guarantee their work.

Mine had some brake work done and I noticed a while later some fluid on the wheels. It was fixed FOC although wasn't definitely known if caused by the work or not...

And you save a sht load!
