Guys,
I'm at my Mum's changing the crankshaft position sensor.
Got the old one out, but it's got oil on the end of it!!

Is that right? Thought they were meant to be dry?

Should I put the new one in?

A little oil is quite normal. Just put the new on in, it will be fine.

Just the response I wanted,
Cheers Olly.

The CPS employs a magnetic principle of operation so would be unaffected by slight oil contamination as has been said.:thumb:

New CPS is in.
No malfunctions but engine light is on.
Does it need to learn the new sensor or something?

Was the battery disconnected at all? Might be a fault was flagged when you disconnected the old sensor. May require the fault to be reset with Star or a fault code reader. :dk: Don't know what model your mother's car is?

It's a W211 52 petrol v6.
Took car to run a few errands and after a couple of starts the light went out.

Did a few more runs and still all ok so looks like job done.

Thanks for the help guys.:thumb:
