I may be able to get my hands on a decent 00 engine to replace the blown one in my 52 - are there any major issues which may prevent this working out in terms of putting the older engine into the newer car?

I'm aware of some changes to water pies and the sump but need to know whether theres a definate 'no it won't fit' or 'yes it will with a bit of work' before I crack on.

Understandably (I suppose) MB won't help.

tricky one.....

I would probably say it will fit ok. What are both engine numbers?

Not sure. I'll see what I can get from the seller and off my car.

Understandably my technician is non committal - if it's do-able the replacement engine seems very good value - just don't want to buy it to be told it won't atatch to the gear box or the sump wont fit or something...

Thoroughly sick to be honest - jut when you think it can't get any worse...

:(

Just had a thought.

Some of the 170cdi engine had air mass sensors and some don't. maybeworth checking both engines.

I'll pass that on - is that something that can be overcome or would it be a large problem - I'm a complete engine novice as you can probably tell.

Just wish I could get my bloody car fixed...

It should be still do-able if different.

It is a long winded job too fitting A-class engines. The whole subframe has to come out with the engine attached to it.
