No, that is not a typo. $20Bn just for providing aircon in Iraq & Afghanistan.

And there people who worry about the extra fuel consumption of leaving their aircon switched on.

At the end of a huge and dangerous logistics chain fuel to run the generator sets is being delivered at a cost of $30-$45 per (US) gallon and at a heavy blood price as well.

Really staggering though is that the US military still does not use insulated tents!

And they wonder why they have such a large defecit.

Thats around 5 billion US gallons of fuel!!

That price includes transportation, labour costs and driving about 1000km in a tanker to various parts, and this is on going. The tents that the AC is used in are not insulated and the lowest temp they can achieve is about 85 Deg. F.

Thought provoking. Not many oil refineries in Afghanistan..

Liquids are heavy, of course. I suppose it costs $45 to deliver a gallon of water as well? Might even be more than that, if you've got to keep it potable on its journey..

Cheers,

Gaz

You can apply the concept to virtually everying: food, water, fuel, ammo, and the 1001 other bits of kit. Supporting the military effort in Afghanistan is so staggeringly expensive and difficult that it is in effect a Logistics War, currently costing the US $2Bn per week.
