I have just got ordered one of these:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productinfo.asp?WebProductID=190087

Have no immediate need for it, may never use it, but looks like a must have for my drawer, just in case!

Could be very very handy.

Saw many cheaper on ebay etc, but not looking so well made.

It's basically a USB external HDD bay without the casing isn't it? :)

Might buy one for myself actually, I have loads of old HDDs kicking about.

Does it come with the power supply?

I too have hundreds of old IDE disks that could be put to better use with the help of this little device.

Connectors: One 1M USB A-type cable.
One 1.3Æ self-powered DC-jack.
One 4 pin Molex power cable for standard HDD/CD-ROMs power connector.
· Indicators: One red powered LED and one green active LED.
· Power source: External power adapter (DC12V/1.5A)
Seems to suggest that it comes with it's own power.

EDIT: we will know for definite when Graham's arrives! :)

2nd EDIT: I just realised that one of these things would work alongside a hardware NAS interface unit (accepts USB storage) to provide remote network storage from one HDD. I could buy the NAS interface, a 300+GB HDD and this cable would bridge the two for a pretty easy computer-independent storage.

It's just arrived. Nice bit of kit, not too badly put together. Comes with external power supply. Connects to regular IDE devices and has a pass through adapter for 2.5" Laptop HDDs.
