Thinking of buying used shockers for my 2007 W245 180 CDi from breakers, will any W245 shockers fit mine, or are the shockers different from a 180 cdi to 1.5 petrol to a B200? I am no mechanic so everything that needs doing is done by a garage ( even an oil change) Garage suggested I buy the whole strut complete with springs so easier to fit ( apparently just a matter of a few bolts in that c situation)
thanks hope this makes sense

Don't do it, there are many many different specs, sizes, lengths etc, all base on your cars equipment level ect

You would first need to check what you have on car

Then cross reference with mb spec sheet

Then find identical unit

Aftermarket is a lottery they pick a gerneric set of specs for most sales can be as much as 30mm difference in aftermarket parts for same quoted mb part number.

Look carefully you need identical dona car to yours and remember parts will be just as old stessed a d worn, and you need to find not just year and model but identical specs as well

And replace in pairs

Why do you need new struts ?

Mine are from 2006 still fine, springs were the problem

Why would you buy used shock absorbers ? new ones are not very expensive and at least you know they will be a matching pair. it is of course your choice but I don't think it would be a good choice to make.

He said shocks I think he was meaning to say struts

Pretty much the same thing on the front, no ? the shock absorbers are in the middle of the spring making up the struts. The OP is from in the USA , maybe we are are not all singing of the same hymn sheet.

I say Tomato , you say tomayto ..etc

The W245 was supplied in either sport or SE, I had the sport with 17" wheels and quite stiff suspension, it was not recommended to change over to a "softer" suspension. As said, buy the correct suspension struts for your car.

As above, makes no sense to buy used shocks, even more so if you are paying for the labour.

Why is this, I imagine mixing sports and comfort springs/ shocks is a bad idea as would be running a combination of sports and comfort suspension across the car.
But I imagine if you replaced it with matching springs and shocks for the whole car it would be fine with either sports or comfort?

I think it also messes up steering geometry, and the sport as said had 17" wheels the SE had 16" wheels. I am not technical, but I think there was a bit more to it than just changing struts. There were many people who wanted to change to a softer suspension especially in the US and it was quite pricey.
