Mrs is away on business and I had promised to give the SLk a good run soon as she has averaged 1500 miles/year since we bought it and I thought a good run would do it good.
I had a meeting planned today and decided I'd take the SLK.
I must admit that when I set the sat nav up and saw that t was over 500 miles and 4 hours+ each way I was a bit nervous as I'm a big bloke and the SLk is not as accomodating as the S class.
Anyway I squeezed myself in and adjusted the seat as best I could, there's no way of getting much distance between myself and the steering wheel but after a few miles I settled in.
What a flippin' hoot!
I LOVED it. It was the first time I've given he car a real good run, previously I've not gone over about 25 miles in it. Did nearly 550 today over 10 hours of driving.
M4, M25, M11, M1.
At least 3 tunnels, I hung back a bit so I could boot it in the tunnels and what a brilliant noise the V6 makes - V8 would have been better but this is only meant to be a runaround for the Mrs and she wasn't too keen on the bigger engine as it was.
Last tunnel was roof down and it sounded awesome!
Spent £100 on petrol but started with a half tank and now has about 3/4 left. I've calculated around 32MPG which I'm most happy with.
Isn't it weird using someone elses car? As soon as I put he belt on I was reminded of my wife by the smell, Chanel no5 in this case.
I fully expected to be fed up with it after 200miles and wishing I'd taken the S class but I have to say that after 10 hours I wasn't aching at all, dare I say even less than in the S - how about that?
Roof down for the last hour, I've arrived home with a red face and 'billy the whiz' hair.
Off to Bournemouth tomorrow, which car to take? choices, choices!
(Saw a strange thing on the M4 at Swindon. a car off the road and into the bushes EACH side of the road. One Westbound and one Eastbound directly opposite each other, just the boot visible - both silver too!)
