Avoid manol oil

Interesting read:

Though it seems that the issue is that Manol could not prove or substantiate their claim of being compliant with the various VW standards listed in their product spec, rather than the VLS actually testing the product and finding that it is on fact not compliant.

So if standard MB oil is pefectly adequate to protect our engines why is the AMG version more expensive, it can't just be the same with a 0w40 formulae, how has it been improved ?

Good question.

So its either Genuine Engine Oil 5W-40, or AMG High Performance Engine Oil 0W-40.

Is there a reason why AMG engines would need 0W oil instead of 5W?

It's the unique additive (scientific designation Meiorum Illusium, more commonly known as the AMG Factor), unique to AMGs, that makes it so expensive...

Tbf, it will give better cold start protection - very marginally better - and slightly better oil consumption with a worn engine.
